**Mean, Median, Mode, & Range**

To calculate - add up all of the scores and then divide by the number of scores.

**Mean**

1. Rank order the scores from smallest to largest.

2. If you have an odd number of scores, then the middle score is the median.

3. If you have an even number of scores, then add the two middle scores and divide by 2.

**Median**

The mode is the most frequently occurring score. (OFTEN)

**Mode**

The "range" for a data set is the DIFFERENCE between the largest value and

smallest value contained in the data set.

**Range**

Practice:

Mean, Median, Mode, and Range

Practice:

Mean, Median, Mode, and Range

Example: Find the mean of: 2, 5, 8, 7, 3

Add all scores

2+5+8+7+3=25

Divide total of scores

25/5=5

Example

8,4,3,9,7,2

Rank from smallest to largest

2,3,4,7,8,9

Median

4+7=11

11/2=5.5

Example:

5,1,7,6,9,8,2,4,6

Rank from smallest to largest.

1,2,4,5,6,6,7,8,9

Mode=6

Example:

5,1,6,7,2,9

Rank the numbers from smallest to largest.

1,2,5,6,7,9

subtract

**9-1=8**

Range=8

Find the mean, median, mode, and range.

The median is the score in the MIDDLE.

The mean is the AVERAGE score.

Can you have more than one mode?
