Hephaestus' Disability

Hephaestus was a very kind and loveable god, but he was ugly and lame. When his mother saw him for the first time, she was so frustrated that she took her son and threw him from Mount Olympus to the depths of the seas, causing a deformation to his leg. Hephaestus was finally rescued by two Nereids, Thetis and Eurynome, who raised him for nine years inside a cave hidden far from his cruel mother. There he became a craftsman and made delightful objects. Symbols of Hephaestus

Fire, the axe, and the hammer. Strengths Weaknesses He was ugly and sought revenge of his mother. The Chair Hephaestus created a chair and sent it to Mount Olympus to his mother; to her she thought it was a great gift and very much fit for a queen but when she sat in it she could not get back up; her feet became cuffed to the chair legs and her hands and neck were strapped to where she could not move. All this was part of his revenge to her for all the cruelty she put him through and for abandoning him. There she starved and right before death with a strangled voice she said what Hephaestus had been waiting to hear and that was "come home son"..so then he released her out of pity and he was given a place of honor amoung the gods. Hera became extremely jealous of her husband Zues for giving birth to his daughter Athena, so she then made herself pregnant, giving birth to Hephaestus out of her thigh. The Making of Hepheastus
