Persuasive Essay! What is a persuasive essay? -Persuasive writing is used to convince the reader of an issue or problem. Your goal is to convince the reader you are right.

-A persuasive essay has a main argument and uses evidence and facts to back up that argument. Why Should I care about this?

Jobs that use argumentative writing:





Advertising. To write a persuasive essay

1-Central argument-What am I trying to convince the reader of?
2-Supporting facts or evidence (body paragraphs).
3-Conclusion. Three types of arguments

Pathos(Emotional)- persuade the reader by using emotion.
Example: "Every day thousands of children are killed by drunk drivers, clearly drunk driving is wrong."

Logos(logical)- persuade the reader by using reasoning/use of logic.
Example: "Not alowing students to wear colors is wrong becuase it violates their basic human right to express themseleves."

Ethos(Credibility)- perusade the reader by importance of the author.
Example:"Clearly racism is still a problem that needs to be addressed today. As Dr. Marting Luther King Jr. once said: "All progress is precarious, and the solution of one problem brings us face to face with another problem." Why should I care? -Persuasive writting is one of the most common types of writing assigned in college.
-In order to pass college writing courses you must be familiar with persuasive writing. Now it's up to you! Question: If there was one thing you could change about your school what would it be?

In the next 5 minutes write down a list of at least 3 things you would change. Complete sentences!!!
