Transcript of Food Industry

Food Industry
design by Dóri Sirály for Prezi
The
food industry
is a complex, global collective of diverse businesses that supply much of the food and food energy consumed by the world population.
What is?
The $1 Menu
For Example

Economic Variables
Air
The animals removed by manure gasses and intestinal gas. These in their large amount cause greenhouse effects.
Environment
Social Variables
The meat packing industry handles the slaughtering, processing, packaging, and distribution of animals such as cattle, pigs, sheep and other livestock.

Solutions

Health: There are many serious safety and health hazards in the meat packing industry.
Workers
*
These hazards include exposure to high noise levels, dangerous equipment, slippery floors, musculoskeletal disorders, and hazardous chemicals (including ammonia that is used as a refrigerant).
*Meat packing workers can be exposed to biological hazards associated with handling live animals or exposures to feces and blood which can increase their risk for many diseases.

Population
And the animals?
What´s the problem??
Industry produces food that is unhealthy, in a way that is environmentally harmful and abusive of both animals and employees.
The thing is...
For one dollar, a family doesn´t make a meal
1.29 Lb
2 or 3 for $1
$1
.99 Lb
How come you can get a hamburger for 99 cents but can´t get a head of brocoli for the same price?
What are they selling us???
Bad calories are
cheaper
Land
Macroeconomics
Microeconomics
The food industry
employees 4%
of total workers in national economy.

The
total production
means about
6.5%

of

economy
.
More than
40%
of production inside food industry represents elaboration of
meat and

other
animal products
.

Since 2011
production costs
had
increased 70%
and this affected the
retail price
, it reached
more than 35%.

Contribution per State
State of Mexico 16%
Jalisco 12 %
Federal District 9.7 %
Veracruz 7 %
Nuevo León to 6.3 %.
overgrazing
land erosion
Water
The
consumption
of animal products has
decreased

from 17 to 15 kilos per capita
. It was a result of the constant increase in prices do sanitation and hygiene control in the sector.

Average price

of a kilogram of meat was 80.6 pesos in 2011 , rose to 92 pesos for 2012 and 117 pesos in 2013.
This represents
nearly a 50 % increase from 2011 to 2013.

Exports fell

from 150,000 tons to 135,000

Also
3.5%
of the
national inversion
is received in food industry.
Degeneration of coral reefs
Widespread overgrazing disturbs water cycles, reducing replenishment of water in the upper and inner webs of the earth.
Political issues

Government policies around food production influence the cost, availability, and safety of the food supply throughout all the world.
Food policies affect farmers, food processors, wholesalers, retailers and consumers. They depend widely on ethical, cultural and environmental disputes about proper production methods.

Fearing spread of antibiotic resistance through the food chain, the Drug Controller General of India (DCGI) and the agriculture ministry have directed state governments to stop the use of antibiotics and hormones in animal feed.

They have also called for strict implementation of a 2012 law, which mandates a gap between the time an animal is given a drug for medical purposes and sale of food products from that animal.

1. Solution to problems in farms
(Production and Health) – Refuse the use of chemicals that affect food production, keep natural resources natural.

2.

Solution to problems in industry
(Economy) – The use of machines has made industry more efficient, but the rates of unemployment have increased quite dramatically for that reason. There are
two options
: we can either create many jobs in those industries for people to work or reduce the use of machines to recover workers, even though we would be would be using old-school processes in industries.

Other Solutions...
3. Solution to diseases
(Health) – Here in Mexico, we have a big problem with obesity due to the fact that our eating habits are terrible, but obesity is not the only problem, there are other diseases like cancer. Fast food has way too much calories and way too little nutritional value. Industries should stop the overproduction of these products and urge people to rather consume nutritious food.
4. Solution to problems with crops
(Environment and Health) – Pesticides should be removed completely and replaced by an ecological substitute for the pesticide to protect crops without causing damage.
5.

Solution to food composition problems
– the use of preservatives should be abolished; instead, to preserve food, it should always be kept under perfectly appropriate conditions for each kind of food.
6. Solution to trash problems
(Environment) – The use of inorganic packages, like plastic bags, are the cause of death of many animal species and destruction of habitats as they pollute the environment. The solution we propose is replacing plastic for paper bags, as one example, so we don’t have to really worry about these biodegradable packages.

7.
For Animals
.- Create awareness among the population about the treatment of animals in big industries that produce meat; itself create a law that guarantees certain measures that can be used in industries and also be allowed to make inspections within them to avoid any anomaly ethical or even impact on health.
As we have seen the use of antibiotics and hormones in animals in factories, they can actually cause diseases to consumers from simple allergies to more serious diseases like cancer, this varies according to the amount and time of consumption.
The treatment of animals especially in this industry, is truly sadistic and Injust towards them.
In most of these factories are no longer living beings they become synonymous of money, therefore their welfare is hardly one of their main concerns.
