Miller's Larger Message
Themes in the Crucible reflect those seen in the real life McCarthy trials, they bring into the light: the potential for corruption of those in power, the lengths a person shall go to in order to uphold a reputation, and the consequences of outrageous lies.
HALE: Excellency, he claims hard evidence for his wife's defense. I think that in all justice you must-

Abigail Williams was the catalyst for change in society. She and the other young girls capitalized their opportunity to execute a power over the public thus overturning the traditional ways, while characters, unlike the young, unmarried women, already holding a form of authority, like a reverend or even a judge, would wish to strengthen and uphold the traditional/existing social order
