Barbara Cooney is an author and illustrator who lived in Damariscotta, Maine. She was born in 1917 and passed away in 2000. Ms. Cooney wrote 110 books. Her most famous ones are
Ox-Cart Man
Chanticleer and the Fox
, and
Miss Rumphius
. She won two Caldecott Awards which are given to the year's best illustrated books.
Lupine is a springtime flower that grows throughout the state of Maine. It can be pink, purple or white but purple is the most common color.
Maine is in the northeastern region of the United States. It was the 23rd state to join the union. Maine's nickname is 'Vacationland' because tourists love to visit Maine to hike, ski, camp and explore the coast.
