The Avengers Plot Diagram
Transcript of The Avengers Plot Diagram
As a result of Loki's intrusion, Nick Fury decides to initiate the Avengers protocol. The team is ultimately collected, consisting of SHIELD spy Natasha Romanoff (Black Widow) , industrialist/inventor Tony Stark (Iron Man), super-soldier Steve Rogers (Captain America), and scientist Bruce Banner (The Hulk). Banner, however, is only brought to serve as a gamma radiation consultant as the Hulk is too erratic and hazardous to be on the team.
The team consisting of only the Black Widow, Captain America, and Iron Man encounters Loki and captures him in Germany, unaware that Hawkeye has managed to attain another vital piece to enact the Tesseract portal while Loki is providing a distraction. While Loki was being transported back to SHIELD, the team encounters his brother, Thor. Thor then allies himself with the team.
The Avengers finally band together and realize that Loki intends to use Stark Towers to power the Tesseract portal. The team appears too late to prevent Loki from opening the portal, though Iron Man devotes to avenge the Earth if it can't be saved. A colossal encounter ensues between the aliens, led by Loki, and the Avengers, led by Captain America. Banner manages to reunite with them and unleashes the Hulk on the alien army. Meanwhile, the council orders Nick Fury to use a super atomic bomb to destroy the portal, but also New York in the process. In a matter of time, the Hulk confronts Loki and defeats him.
Natasha interrogates Loki, and discovers that his initiative is to manipulate Banner in hopes that the Hulk would release to either kill the Avengers or cause them to disassemble. Before Banner is evacuated, Hawkeye constructs a sneak attack on the Hellicarrier, damaging one of its engines. During the encounter, the Hulk is released. As a result, Loki manages to escape. However, Hawkeye manages to regain his senses and agrees to become the final member of the Avengers to take revenge on Loki for exploit him into committing crimes.
The council proceeds to launch the atomic bomb, despite Fury strongly refusing it. Iron Man discovers that the bomb has been launched towards New York City, and he intercepts it, flying it through the portal to Chitauri space before falling unconscious there. The bomb impels the Chitauri space center, eliminating all of the Chitauri soldiers on Earth. Romanoff, with Selvig's assistance, manages to close the portal after Iron Man's seemingly lifeless body rushes back. He, however, miraculously regains consciousness moments after. Subsequently, the team takes Loki into custody, with no resistance, because he was still severely incapacitated from his encounter with the Hulk.
While a few view the Avengers as a menace or a hoax, the majority of society accepts the team as heroes. Nevertheless, Nick Fury has allowed the team to disband to attend to their personal lives. Loki and the Tesseract are handed over to Thor, who returns with them to Asgard. In addition, Tony Stark makes plans for what will likely be Avengers Tower (rather than Stark tower). Nick Fury ensures Maria Hill and the council that when called upon, the Avengers will assemble once again.
