Transcript of Both Sides Now

What is "Cloud Computing" Cloud computing is Internet-based computing, whereby shared resources, software and information are provided to computers and other devices on-demand, like electricity. (Wikipedia) Cloud Computing - The use of a Web services such as Flickr, Google Docs, Jing (video screencapture service) to perform the functions that were traditionally done with software installed on an individual computer. (Penn State Learning Design Community Hub.) Pros: No Hardware Maintenance
Universal Platform Easy-to-Use Cons: Can Save $$ Concerns about Security/Privacy GIVING UP CONTROL!!!! Free doesn't always stay free.... Must be online DUH! Internet's Down -- D'oh! Windows, Linus, Mac? It Doesn't Matter! The Cheverus website is hosted on Rackspace Cloud.

I never have to worry about updating or maintaining servers, backing up the website or database, upgrading the SQL software etc. I had Library World up-and-running in 15 minutes. No software to install. No trouble-shooting. I filled out the registration, uploaded my library records, imported my patron records -- and I was in business. Google Apps for Education FREE Email
