Who was Marco Polo?

mARCO POLO WAS BORN IN 1254 IN VENICE. HE WAS A VENETIAN MERCHAND, TRAVELLER AND CITIZEN OF VENICE REPUBLIC.

During the Late Middle Ages, the Republic of Venice began to become a Mediterranean power. During the Fourth Crusade, by Venetian suggestion, the Crusaders sacked Constantinople, decapitating the Byzantine Empire and conquering numerous territories. Although the subsequent Latin Empire was soon reconquered by the same empire, Venice continued to control several islands and cities, and being one of the main mercantile powers.

Marco Polo's travels, also known as The Book of Wonders or The Million Book ,. The book recounts Marco Polo's travels to China, which he calls Catay (north of China) and Mangi (southern China). Polo allegedly dictated his work to an amanuensis, Rustichello of Pisa, who was his authentic author, drawing on accounts of Italian merchants and in his fantasy while he was imprisoned in Genoa in 1298 and 1299, Marco Polo is only the novel character protagonist.
