topic sentences, concluding sentences and transition words Paragraph Writing Topic Sentences Transition Words Hamburger Model A topic sentence essentially tells what the rest of the paragraph is about.
All sentences after it have to give more information about the sentence, prove it by offering facts about it, or describe it. Concluding Sentences A Concluding Sentence is the last sentence of a paragraph. It summarizes everything that you just wrote about, and it is somewhat like your Introduction Sentence.
Usually, your concluding sentence will say something like "In conclusion," or "Therefore," or "To summarize." Transition words help readers better understand your work
They are used to organize and clarify the sequence (order) of your writing Method of organizing a paragraph Examples: There are many reasons why pollution in ABC Town is the worst in the world.
Dogs make wonderful pets because they help you to live longer.
Graduating from high school is important for many different reasons. Example: There are three reasons why Canada is one of the best countries in the world. First, Canada has an excellent health care system. All Canadians have access to medical services at a reasonable price. Second, Canada has a high standard of education. Students are taught by well-trained teachers and are encouraged to continue studying at university. Finally, Canada's cities are clean and efficiently managed. Canadian cities have many parks and lots of space for people to live. As a result, Canada is a desirable place to live. Examples: Although sarcasm is not appreciated by everyone, it is my preferred form of humour. (compare and contrast)
Justin Bieber is currently very popular, however, I prefer to listen to Mumford & Sons. (compare and contrast)
In addition, school should start at 10:00am on Mondays so that students are more alert and motivated. (examples and emphasis)
The fire hydrant at the end of my street exploded in the middle of winter, and as a result, the road became like an ice rink. (cause and effect)
