Died August 10, 1915 at Gallipoli, Turkey
Full name is Henry Gwyn Jeffrey Moseley
Born in the town of Weymouth, England on November 23, 1887.
He came from a long line of educated people
His father was a professor of anatomy and physiology
His mother was a daughter of an ambassador
Was admitted in 1906 to the University of Oxford Trinity College. Recieved a second class honors degree in physics
Died in combat during World War 1 when he was only 27.
His Contributions
Developed the application of x-ray spectra to study atomic stucture
His discoveries resulted in a more accurate positioning of elements in the periodic table by closer determination of the atomic numbers
How Does It Work?
Henry observed the properties of the elements under a x-ray and discovered that the wavelengths of the x-rays became shorter as the atomic weight increased. The frequency and energy was increasing because of the inverse relationship between wavelength and frequency.He took the square root of the frequency and found out that the increase was constant from one element to the other. First elements were arranged by atomic mass, now it is arranged by atomic numbers without the elements being out place
