American Studies students will conduct interdisciplinary study of topics such as race and ethnicity, gender and sexuality, transnational and border studies, urban experience, social justice, cultural studies, and religion. American Studies provides excellent preparation for careers in many fields, including law, journalism, government, foreign service, social work, international business, education, nonprofit, and public administration.
Teacher Certification: Interdisciplinary Studies and Kinesiology P.E.
Students pursuing teacher certification are required to fulfill UTSA degree requirements and State Board for Educator Certification (SBEC) teacher certification requirements.

The Multidisciplinary Studies major permits an interdisciplinary approach to education allowing students the opportunity to acquire a well rounded educational background and problem solving skills. The objectives of the program are to develop students that have a solid foundation in the content material of
three different disciplines
and are skilled in communication, critical thinking and analysis, investigating and solving problems, managing tasks, and relating to others.
