Rick Riordan got some of his inspiration from one of the subjects that he taught, Greek Mythology. However most of his inspiration came from one of his sons Haley who held a keen interest in greek mythology. Every night Haley would make him tell him a story about greek mythology. He would think I should make a book out of this; that was the smartest decision that he made. He based Percy Jackson, one of his famous characters, on Haley.

When he was in high school he worked as an editor for the school newspaper and won third place in state for UIL feature writing. He started collage in North Texas State because at the time he thought that he wanted to play the guitar and they had a great music program. He later went to University of Texas and that is where he graduated from.
When he is not writing a book or trying to get his books published Rick likes to read, swim, play guitar, and travel with is family. He enjoys reading greek mythology and mystery.
