Introduction TWO MAIN CHARACTERS PERSPECTIVES SUPPORTING DETAILS CONCLUSIONS ORIGIN OF BULLYING
Many people may not know this but in the 1500s the word bullying meant "sweetheart". It eventually became a term associated with males meaning a good friend , a companion , or a protector. After more than 150 years, the word’s meaning morphed towards brave, a synonym of bully. However, it took on a darker meaning as time progressed towards our modern understanding of a coward who terrorizes the weak. TYPES OF BULLYING MEDIA ADDRESSES BULLYING IN 2 CATEGORIES: WHERE BULLYING HAPPENS AND BULLYING PREVENTION BULLYING Most People Regret Being A Bully. So Why Do It? Most Kids Get Bullied In The Playground. So Next Time You See It , Make A Difference And Be An Upstander Not A Bystander WHEN WE LOOK AT A BULLYING PROBLEM WE ALWAYS CARE FOR THE VICTIM THE MOST WHICH MEANS NO MATTER HOW MANY TIMES YOU PUNISH THE BULLY , THEY WILL KEEP BULLYING THE VICTIM. WE NEVER KNOW WHY THE BULLY IS DOING THIS OR HOW THE BULLY IS FEELING BECAUSE WE NEVER GIVE THE BULLY A CHANCE TO SPEAK. INSTEAD THEY ARE SENT DIRECTLY TO THE OFFICE, THEY CAN'T DEFEND THEMSELVES. I CAN GIVE YOU SOME RESONS THAT I LEARNED WITH MY TEACHER ABOUT WHY A BULLY BULLY'S :
1. THEY HIDE THEIR EMOTIONS OF ANGER, SADNESS OR FEAR
2. THEY ARE JEALOUS OF THE VICTIM
3. TO BE POWERFUL
4. TO FEEL LIKE THEY BELONG WITH EVERYONE ELSE
5. THEY TRY HARD TO BE COOL
6. MAYBE THEY WERE BULLIED IN SOME PART OF THEIR LIFE.
7. THEY DON'T HAVE GOOD ROLE MODELS
8. MAYBE THE BULLY'S RELATIONSHIP WITH THEIR FAMILY IS NOT GOOD FOR EXAMPLE POOR PARENTING, OR THE CHILD AND THEIR PARENTS ARE NOT GETTING ALONG WELL, THEY'RE ALWAYS FIGHTING AND ARGUING.
9. THE BULLY DOESN'T UNDERSTAND HOW THE VICTIM FEELS OR THE BULLY HAS UNSOLVED PROBLEMS WITH THE VICTIM. BULLY'S PERSPECTIVE FACTS OFTENTIMES BULLYING SEEMS TO START IN MIDDLE SCHOOL AND HIGH SCHOOL, WHERE EVERYONE TRIES TO BE COOL AND POPULAR (CP). MOST BULLYING INCIDENTS THAT HAPPEN DURING SCHOOL HOURS TAKE PLACE IN ANY OPEN SPACE WHERE TEACHERS REALLY DON'T LOOK. FOR EXAMPLE: THE SCHOOL PLAY GORUND OR HALLWAYS. VICTIM PERSPECTIVE THE VICTIM CAN ALSO BE REFERRED TO AS A TARGET. ANY PERSON CAN BCOME A TARGET. THE PERCENTAGE OF VICTIMS DECREASE ACROSS GRADE LEVELS: 26% OF CHILDREN FROM GRADES 1-3 ARE BULLIED COMPARED TO 15% IN GRADES 4-6 AND 12% IN GRADES 7-8. CHILDREN IN LOWER GRADES WILL MOST LIKELY BE A VICTIM OF OLDER BULLIES. CHILDREN IN THE HIGHER GRADES WILL MOST LIKELY BE A VICTIM OF THE SAME GRADE BULLIES. YOUNGER STUDENTS WILL EXPERIENCE DIRECT BULLYING WHILE OLDR STUDENTS WILL EXPERIENCE INDIRECT BULLYING. VICTIMS OFTEN TURN MORE SENSITIVE AND HAVE LOWER SELF-ESTEEM. THEY'RE A LIGHT WEIGHT AS IT IS SAID IN THE SONG LIGHTWEIHGT FROM DEMI LOVATO " I AM A LIGHTWEIHGT, BETTER BECAREFUL WHAT YOU SAY, WITH EVERY WORD I'M BLOWEN AWAY .... EASY TO FALL EASY TO BREAK" THESIS
BULLYING IS A PAINFUL
SITUATION THAT WILL
HAUNT YOU AND CAN
CAUSE INNER, OUTER
AND EMOTIONAL
DAMAGE FOR THE REST
OF YOUR LIFE! BULLYING CAN BE FORMED IN 3 OR MORE DIFFERENT WAYS. 3 COMMON ONES ARE: PHYSICAL , EMOTIONAL AND CYBER. PHYSICAL BOYS ARE BULLIED MORE THAN GIRLS. BOYS TEND TO BULLY BY USING THREATS AND THEY DO MORE PHYSICAL BULLYING. GIRLS DO MORE EMOTIONAL BULLYING. EMOTIONAL GIRLS BULLY EMOTIONALLY. THOUGH GIRLS ARE HURT IN EMOTIONAL FORMS OF BULLYING,RESEARCH SHOWS THAT THEY HAVE BECOME MORE PHYSICAL THAN THEY HAVE IN THE PAST. EMOTIONAL BULLYING CAN BE CAUSED BY PHYSICAL APPEARANCE. FOR EXAMPLE THEIR HEALTH, ALLERGIES, BRACES, AND GLASSES. CYBER CYBER BULLYING IN MOSTLY ASSOCIATED WITH THE INTERNET. CYBER BULLYING CAN HAPPEN ON FACEBOOK, TWITTER AND INSTAGRAM. IT CAN ALSO HAPPEN IN SOCIAL LIFE. FOR EXAMPLE : TEXT MESSAGES, VIDEOS AND PICTURE MESSAGES. HOW MEDIA ADDRESSES MOVIES AND DOCUMENTARIES THERE ARE SO MANY MOVIES AND DOCUMENTARIES THAT HAVE BULLYING IN IT. DOCUMENTARIES THE MOST RECENT DOCUMENTARY IS "BULLY". IT WAS RELEASED ON MARCH 30TH 2012. IT IS ABOUT FIVE KIDS, THERE FAMILY AND HOW THE KIDS WERE BULLIED THROUGH OUT A SCHOOL YEAR. MOVIES KARATE KID AND MEAN GIRLS THESE TWO MOVIES HAVE THE SAME TYPE OF BULLYING. A NEW KID COMES TO A NEW COUNTRY AND GOES TO A NEW SCHOOL .
HE/SHE MAKES NEW FRIENDS BUT NEW FRIENDS COMES
WITH NEW ENEMIES. THEY TRY TO FIT IN AT THE SCHOOL
BUT THE BULLY TRIES SOME SORT OF WAY TO BRING
THEM RIGHT DOWN. CYBER BULLY CYBER BULLY IS ABOUT A TEENAGE GIRL WHO FALLS VICTIM TO ONLINE BULLYING AND IT AFFECTS HER AS WELL AS HER FRIENDS AND FAMILY. NEWS EVENTS BULLYING HAPPENS EVERYWHERE . MOST BULLYING PROBLEMS ARE SO SERIOUS THAT THEY EVEN APPEAR ON THE NEWS AMANDA TODD WAS A VICTIM OF BULLYING. THERE WAS A POINT WHERE SHE HAD ENOUGH AND DECIDED TO KILL HERSELF. THAT IS HOW MUCH TORTURE SHE WENT THROUGH. A POOR ELDERLY LADY WAS A BUS MONITOR AND SHE WAS BEING BULLIED FOR HER PHYSICAL APPEARANCE. THEY MADE FUN OF HER FAMILY WHEN SHE RECENTLY LOST HER SON TO SUICIDE . IT WAS BECAUSE OF CARSON JONES THAT CHY WAS NO LONGER BULLIED. FROM THAT LITTLE ACT OF KINDNESS IT CHANGED CHY'S LIFE FOREVER.YOU CAN SEE THE HOLY SPIRIT IN HIM. INTERVIEWS SOME CELEBRITIES WE KNOW ALSO HAVE GONE THROUGH BULLYING. I HAVE PICKED TWO CELEBRITIES TO TALK ABOUT. THE FIRST ONE IS DEMI LOVATO AND THE SECOND ONE IS SELENA GOMEZ. DEMI LOVATO DEMETRIA DEVONNE LOVATO WAS BORN ON AUGUST 20 1992. SHE IS RECENTLY 20 YEARS-OLD. SHE IS AN AMERICAN SINGER-SONGWRITER, MUSICIAN, ACTRESS AND ANTI-BULLYING SPOKES PERSON. SHE STARTED HER CAREER ON BARNEY AND FRIENDS. AT THE AGE OF 7 STARRING AS ANGELA. THEN STARED IN CAMP ROCK. THEN STARTED ON HER OWN SITCOM SONNY WIHT A CHANCE. THEN ON AMERICA'S NEXT TOP MODEL . SHE HAS RELEASED THREE ALBUMS: DON'T FORGET, HERE WE GO AGAIN AND UNBROKEN. DEMI REVEALED GOING THROUGH PAINFUL EXPERIENCE OF BULLYING IN THE SEVENTH GRADE. ONE DAY THE BULLYING WAS SO BAD THAT SHE WAS HOME SCHOOL ED THROUGH OUT THE REST OF MIDDLE SHCOOL AND HIGH SCHOOL . SINCE THE AGE OF 8 DUE TO BULLYING SHE HAD UNHEALTHY RELATIONSHIPS WITH FOOD. SHE WAS ANOREXIC AND WAS BULIMIC. SHE FACING WITH BIPOLAR. SHE WOULD CUT HER WRIST TO LET OUT HER EMOTIONS AND DEPRESSION SINCE AGE 11. SHE STATED" THEY WOULD CALL ME A WHORE AND TOLD ME I WAS FAT AND UGLY. I SHOULDN'T HAVE LISTENED, BUT I TOOK IT TO HEART AND IT HURT. I THOUGHT MAYBE I DIDN'T HAVE FRIENDS BECAUSE I WAS TOO FAT." DEMI WENT FOR TREATMENT TO HELP HER FACE HER PROBLEMS AND TODAY SHE IS A JUGDE ON X FACTOR BUT THIS IS SOMETHING SHE WILL NEVR FORGET. SELENA GOMEZ SELENA MARIE GOMEZ WAS BORN ON
JULY 22, 1992. SHE IS 20 YEARS OLD. SHE STARTED HER CAREER ON BARNEY AND FRIENDS. NOT ONLY WAS SELENA GOMEZ BULLIED THROUGH OUT SCHOOL BUT SHE WAS ALSO BULLIED BECAUSE SHE WAS DATING HEARTTHROB SENSATION, JUSTIN BEIBER. FANS THOUGHT THE COUPLE WERE MAKING A BIG MISTAKE BECAUSE OF THEIR AGE DIFFERENCE AS SELENA IS OLDER THAN JUSTIN BEIBER. COMMERCIALS/ADS SOME COMMERCIALS / ADS ARE FOCUSED ON HOW TO STOP BULLYING OR HAVE TIPS ON WHAT TO DO WHEN YOU ARE BULLIED SUCH AS CALLING THE KIDS HELP PHONE AND STOMP OUT BULLYING. HOW TO PREVENT BULLYING LET ME START OFF BY ASKING YOU A QUESTION: "HOW DO YOU THINK PEOPLE THESE DAYS PREVENT BULLYING?" PICTURE BOOKS/ NOVELS THERE ARE SO MANY PICTURE BOOKS AND NOVELS THAT TALK
ABOUT BULLYING . THE TOP 3 THAT I LIKE ARE: DON'T LAUGH AT ME, DORK DARIES AND HOW FULL IS YOUR BUCKET. MY FAVORITE BOOK OUT OF THESE THREE IS HOW FULL IS YOUR BUCKET. IT TELLS US THAT EVERY PERSON HAS THEIR OWN IMAGINARY EMPTY BUCKET AND EVERY TIME YOU GIVE THAT PERSON A COMPLIMENT IT FILLS THEIR BUCKET UP A BIT. THE MORE COMPLIMENTS THAT A PERSON GETS, THE MORE THEIR BUCKET GETS FILLED. HOWEVER, WHEN THAT PERSON IS HURT THE BUCKET WILL KEEP GETTING EMPTY. SONGS THERE ARE SONGS THAT TALK ABOUT BULLYING. HERE ARE A FEW: SPECIAL WEEK THERE IS A SPECIAL WEEK IN NOVEMBER WHERE ANTI-BULLYING IS REMEMBERED. THIS YEAR ANTI- BULLIERS HAVE DECIDED TO EXTEND THE WEEK INTO A WHOLE MONTH. NOVEMBER WILL BE ANTI-BULLYING MONTH. THIS YEARS ANTI-BULLYING WEEK IS FROM NOVEMBER 18 TO NOVEMBER 22. CAMPAIGN THERE ARE ON GOING CAMPAIGNS THAT HAPPEN THROUGH OUT OUR LIVES BUT SOMETIMES WE GET CAUGHT UP WITH OUR OWN SOICAL LIFE AND WE DON'T EVEN PAY ATTENTION TO THEM. TWO CAMPAIGN ARE: PINK SHRIT AND THE ANTI-BULLYING CAMPAIGN. THERE ARE POSTERS AND WEB SITES THAT INVOLVED ANTI-BULLYING. SOME STRATEGIES THAT CAN HEAL THE BULLY AND VICTIM ARE: INTERVENTION GROUPS AND RESTORATIVE PRACTICE CIRCLE . RELIGIOUS IN THE BIBLE IT ALSO TALKS ABOUT BULLYING BUT IT IS WORDED DIFFERENTLY. SOME BIBLE QUOTES ARE:
ROMANS 12:19-20 19 Do not take revenge, my dear friends, but leave room for God’s wrath, for it is written: “It is mine to avenge; I will repay,” says the Lord. 20 On the contrary:“If your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink. In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head.” , LEVITICUS 19:18 18 You shall not take vengeance, nor bear any grudge against the children of your people, but you shall love your neighbor as yourself: I am the Lord. , 1 JOHN 2:9 9 Anyone who claims to be in the light but hates a brother or is still in the darkness. AND EPHESIANS 4:29 29 Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen. TO CONCLUDE I WOULD LIKE TO SAY A FEW POINTS ABOUT BULLYING.
BOYS TEND TO BULLY ACCORDING TO GROUPS. FOR EXAMPLE "ATHLETE " VS. "NON-ATHLETE"
GIRLS TEND TO BULLY ACCORDING TO SOCIAL STATUS. FOR EXAMPLE " POPULAR " VS. "NON-POPULAR".
THE BULLIED CHILD OFTEN FEELS POWERLESS TO STOP THE BULLYING WITH OUT HELP.
TELLING A TRUSTED ADULT IS ONE OF THE BEST WAYS FOR THE CHILD TO PUT A STOP TO THE BULLYING.
BYSTANDERS ARE ALSO INVOLVED WITH BULLYING. AS THEY TO HAVE TO STOP IT FROM CONTINUING. BULLYS NEED TO REALIZE WE ARE WHO WE ARE SO I WOULD LIKE TO SHARE THIS SONG WITH YOU CALLED WE ARE WHO WE ARE FROM LITTLE MIX. VICTIMS NEED TO UNDERSTAND THERE IS HOPE FOR THEM. DON'T LET THE BULLY IN YOUR HEAD STOMP THEM OUT OF YOUR HEAD. BULLIES NEED TO UNDERSTAND THAT WE ARE NOT PERFECT. WE ALL HAVE LITTLE THING HERE AND THERE.
IF IT IS ALLERGIES OR PHYSICAL APPEARANCE IT DOESN'T MATER WE ARE NOT PERFECT. VICTIMS CAN'T LET THEIR LITTLE THINGS GET IN THE WAY OF WHO THEY ARE.
