Visualization For Learning
At first, You Will Have To Be
Mindful and Conscious of Visualizing
Once you have developed the capacity to visualize and you have spent time practicing it, visualization will begin to happen automatically!
To Develop a Strong Visualization Core,
You Must Consider the Following :
1. What 6. Relation
2. When 7. Position
3. Where 8. Accessories
4. Quality 9. Action
5. Quantity 10. Reaction
The First Five Skills
: What objects are in your visualization?
: When does your visualization take place (past, present, future, morning, evening…)?
What is the location of your visualization?
: What are the sizes and colors of the details in your visualization? Does the visualization tap into your other senses such as sound, touch, and taste?
: How many of each object is in your visualization?
The Second Five Skills
: How are the objects related to each other? What ways are the objects facing and how does that impact the message?
: From what position are you viewing your visualization (above, below, beside…)? Also, how are the objects positioned themselves (standing, sitting, leaning)?
: Are there any other details to note such as clothing, jewelry, artwork?
: Are there any actions taking place in your visualization?
: Did your visualization include any reactions such as laughter or anger?
Developing your Visualization Capacity will Make Reading, Writing and Remembering a Breeze.
Aristotle defined categories of being that can help to define the areas that should be considered when developing visualization skills. Nanci Bell (1991) in her book, Visualizing and Verbalizing, also does a wonderful job of breaking down mental imagery into a number of key components. I chose to use Aritstotle’s breakdown. Some of these will come naturally and others need to be consciously developed. There are 10 visualization skills that need to be developed to maximize each learner’s visualization capabilities.
