Language can be used as a tool for social control
Language
In spoken or written language, words are used to express thoughts. Words provide humans with an effective way of conveying and communicating our thoughts. Therefore, language can be used to manipulate other people by making our thoughts and ideas seem good. Language has the power to mould and shape larger social, political and economic realities.
Two main people who gained social control include Barack Obama and Hitler. Even though they are two completely different people, the one thing they have in common is that they are both amazing speakers.
Barack Obama's use of language is one example of how language is a tool for social control. . By the use of catchy slogans and many promises that he envisioned would help America, Obama was able to gain the control and votes of the American society. In a country where voting isn’t compulsory, Obama’s speeches made the most people come out and vote. However, some of the promises Obama made were not fulfilled. When questioned Obama stated that he said they would be done but not when. Obama cleverly twisted his words during his election speeches that made people believe in him, but when the time came he didn’t automatically deliver. This shows that language can be used to manipulate people into believing something, therefore obtaining power over them.
Adolf Hitler
Adolf Hitler is also another example of a person that has used languages as a tool for social control. Hitler was able to get away with doing many atrocious acts without having people question him, because he was always able to back up his actions in a convincing speech. Not only did people not openly question him but they fully supported him, since his speeches his speeches appealed to their sense of patriotism.

Language can be used as a tool for social control. People get drawn into the thoughts and ideas of the person talking, making them captivated and believe the person that’s talking. Language being used as a tool for social control isn’t always bad; it just depends on what it is used for. If it were to be used to stop poverty or achieve world peace, the use of language as a tool is beneficial. However, it has mainly been used to corrupt people.
Barack Obama
Thank you for listening.
"If thought corrupts language, language can also corrupt thought. A bad usage can spread by tradition and imitation, even among people who should and do know better."

- George Orwell
"Political language... is designed to make lies sound truthful and murder respectable, and to give an appearance of solidity to pure wind. "

- George Orwell
