Transcript of DOT REGULATIONS / HOURS OF SERVICE

HOURS OF SERVICE
NORTH AMERICAN TRANSPORT SERVICES
The main reason is to keep fatigued drivers off the public roadways. These regulations are designed to limit the amount of hours you drive to help make sure you stay awake and are alert while driving.
In other words, they're for the sake of the SAFETY of those around you and your own!
It is based on a 24 hour period. You are allowed 14 CONSECUTIVE hours of working time. It is any combination of driving and on duty not driving time. Your 11 hours must be within the 14 hours and you must take a 10 hour break in order to restart your 14 hours.
14 HOUR DUTY LIMIT (14 HORAS)
so what counts towards my ON DUTY time?
Que cuenta como tiempo de trabajo?
During your 14 hours you are allowed to drive 11 hours. You must take a 10 hour consecutive break whether it's off duty or sleeper berth or combination
to restart your driving hours.
THE 11 HOUR
DRIVING RULE (11 HORAS)
WHY ARE THEY IN PLACE?

PARA QUE ESTAN ESAS REGLAS?
In your on duty time you need to include all activities that relate to your work such as:
- fueling, washing, inspecting your truck
- loading, unloading and handling paperwork for your load
-time spent in training or classes as well as randoms for alcohol and drugs
- time spent at another job even if it does not require you to drive
THE 70 HOUR DUTY LIMIT ( LAS 70 HORAS)
This limits your total working hours to 70 hours in a period of 8 consecutive days. You count your driving and on duty not driving time for this total and your current day count towards the amount of hours. Once you reach the limit you have to take a 34 hour restart to reset your week.
34 HOUR RESTART ( Las 34 horas)
Once you reach your limit of 70 hours in 8 days you must take a 34 hour restart. As of July 1 2013, your 34 hour restart must include two periods between 1 am and 5 am, so in order to take only exactly 34 hours off, you need to go off duty between 7 pm and 1 am, otherwise you will be forced to take more than the 34 hours. The purpose is to make sure you get nighttime rest, which is the most restorative type of rest.
REST BREAKS
You have to take at least 30 minutes of rest after driving or being on duty not driving for 8 hours.

DOT REGULATIONS AWARENESS

LOGBOOK
10 HOURS RULE ( 10 HORAS)
You must spend AT LEAST 8 consecutive hours in the sleeper. The other 2 hours can be spent between the sleeper and line 1 ( Off duty). this 10 hours are CONSECUTIVE!!!!

CHICHARRAS
