Venezuelan earthquake of 1997 The plates The type movement was a strike-slip fault. Magnitude of movement measured This was a 7.0 earthquake. It caused more than $80 million dollars worth of damage.. ... and killed 81 people. :''( The two plates that caused this earthquake were the South American plate and the Caribbean plate. South American plate Caribbean plate just so you guys know ryan did NOT do these pictures himself... he fo WHY I PICKED THIS EARTHQUAKE. I picked this earthquake because i REALLY like Venezuela.
