Best Face Forward! The holistic approach to wellness

Experiential activity
Balance of LIFE...

Instructions: Pick a partner, your seatmate and answer the following questions:

Q1:
Recall a time in your LIFE when you were at your BEST.

Q2:
Select 2-3 adjectives, qualities, traits to describe YOU during that BEST self moment

A few guidelines to maximize the activity:
- Really dig into your inner memory bank
- Be a generous storyteller & listener:
"Open heart, open mind"
- Take no more than 5 minutes each in answering both questions
What does this simple
exercise of mindfulness tell us?
Happiness is...
contagious
can be shared
resonates
emanates from within
Positive approach:
+ stories trigger + energy
"Positive emotions trigger Upward spirals toward emotional being (B. Fredrickson, Psychological Science Journal)
There is power in the questions!
"No matter what I do, I can't seem to be happy? = Negative
"I guess I'm happy?" = Baseline; uncetain; coasting along
"I could be happier?" = Grass is greener or curiousity
"I am at my BEST ever! Superlative! = BRAVO!

Gratefulness
exercise
Random acts of kindness
Quiet time/meditation
Journal one positive thing in your day
Embrace a new goal (triggers dopamine, energy is increased)
Breathe, stretch and laugh (triggers endorphins)
Fight vs. Flight to "Survive then thrive" (keep cortisol levels at bay)
Build new habits (Brain Retrain)
Positive intelligence (Happy folks are more creative, productive, better at problem solving vs. unhappy peers - HBR Jan 2012) Happiness precedes success!
Mindfulness/Awareness i.e. "What worked well vs. what went wrong?"
Music
Social connectivity
Cultivate relationships
Smile
Compliment more, criticize less
Engage in activities that make you happy
Challenge yorself: 212 degree - the extra degree
Light exposure
Focus on positive events, surround yourself with positive people
Learn to co-exist with negative energy, pessimists, perceived "bad" days
Define your purpose, Craft a personal vision!
