Roy Wong Computer and Software Engineering Current or
future innovations I chose this faculty because I want to learn some new technology in I.T. As we are living in information society, communication is easier with Internet. We get a lot of information from the Internet everyday, such as instant news, friend's status... I am interested in how the network and software we use everyday works. Then I decided to study it more deeply. What is computer and software engineering? Computer and software engineering is a study which combines electronic engineering and computer sciences. It aims to plan, design and develop computer software products. Introducing programming language The history of Computer and

software engineering can be

divided into periods 3 The Pioneering Era
(1955-1965) The Stabilizing Era
(1965-1980) The Micro Era
(1980-Present) IBM 360, the largest software project, signaled the beginning of the stabilizing era. It combined scientific and business applications onto one machine. PL/I, introduced by IBM to merge all programming languages into one, failed. The demand for programmers exceeded the supply. As the software field stabilized, software became a corporate asset and its value became huge. "Structured Programming" burst on the scene in the middle of this era. Most customized applications continued to be done in-house. Standards organizations became control battle grounds. The vendor who defined the standards could gain significant competitive advantage by making the standards match their own technology. Programmers still had to go to the "machine room" and did not have computers on their desks. Software designers could finally spend time writing new software instead of rewriting the old. C Who created C programming language? The C programming language was written by Dennis Ritchie in 1972. He is also one of the developers of UNIX operating system. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/obituaries/technology-obituaries/8830332/Dennis-Ritchie.html Use of C 1. It is developed on the basis of B language, an early programming language. And now C is one of the most popular and widely used programming languages. Nowadays, it is hard to find a computer architecture that without a C compiler.
