The Voice Festival UK COMMUNITY SHOWCASE 2014
Kitsch in Sync is a fun-loving a cappella choir. The group specialises in hits from the 80's, but with some newer and older songs too. They are a friendly and welcoming group, who don't audition or require members to read music, but still create a great sound that audiences love.
Signature formed ten years ago with a mission to entertain audiences by performing a wide variety of a cappella music. They are members of the Ladies Association of British Barbershop Singers and are very proud to have won gold silver and bronze medals at the Association’s national chorus competitions over the last decade. However their repertoire includes all kinds of arrangements and they have performed in all kinds of settings in UK, Holland and Sweden. They are based in Iver Heath, a small village near Slough in Buckinghamshire, but singers travel to weekly rehearsals from all over the Home Counties and as far afield as the Midlands. MD Timm Barkworth took over in August 2012.
The Refrains are quickly establishing themselves as one of the foremost young a cappella ensembles on the thriving London scene. Founded in late 2010 by award-winning singers and beatboxers from the likes of the International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella, Last Choir Standing and Britain’s Got Talent favourites Out of the Blue, The Refrains hold a combined total of 70 years a cappella experience between them! The Refrains offer a programme of sumptuous jazz arrangements, genre jumping covers and assorted originals. Following a successful run at the Edinburgh Fringe, The Refrains enjoyed a sold-out London debut at The Forge, Camden. Recent gigs have included performances at the Edinburgh Fringe, The London A Cappella Festival, Voice Festival, Spitalfields Summer Festival, Kings Place Festival, Dulwich Festival and private events including weddings and parties.
Original Sing is a Bristol based, eleven piece vocal group that celebrates life, through songs of heart and passion, complexity and depth. Together for 13 years, nearly all are former members of Naked Voices, a group which hopped up and down the UK touring everywhere, notching up 3 Edinburgh Fringe Sell Out Show awards in a row.
The Beatroots were formed at the University of Oxford in 2012. They are made up of a gang of friends who missed a cappella in their postgraduate lives and love to sing their hearts out!
Meet the groups
Since 2007, In the Smoke has been arranging great songs for a cappella voices, retaining what makes the originals great and adding the group's own style, flair and stagecraft. All their repertoire is written or arranged by group members, who boast experience as singer-songwriters, opera singers, madrigal enthusiasts and choral scholars – and as teachers, doctors, lawyers and scientists… They have used their diversity and passion to create something altogether different, building a reputation as storytellers and innovators. Recent albums ‘No Smoke Without Fire’ and ‘Windmill Sessions’ are available on iTunes, Amazon and Spotify.
