May 4, 1929 - January 20, 1993 Audrey Hepburn Childhood Audrey Hepburn was born in Brussels, Belgium on May 4, 1929. Her mother is Ella van Heemstra and her father is Joseph Hepburn-Ruston. When she was five she was sent to a boarding school in England. Her and her family continued to live in England, then Audrey's father left them. Audrey said "It was the most traumatic event in my life". ( Biography.com 2013 ) On Broadway
When Audrey was 22 year she was involved with Broadway. The first production she was in was Gigi. Two years later she was in her first film, Roman Holiday. She was awarded the Academy Award for best actress. In 1954 Audrey won a Tony Award for best actress. This was the beginning of her filming career. Then that year, September 24, 1954 she married Mel Ferrer. ( Biography.com 2013 ) Film Star Audrey then starred in the movie Sabrina in 1954, which was a big hit. She went on to star in Funny Face. She was perfect for this movie because of her dancing abilities. Audiences enjoyed all of her performances in the movie. She continued to perform in films like War and Peace, The Nun's Story, The Unforgiven, and Breakfast at Tiffany's. ( Biography.com 2013 ) Later Work Audrey Hepburn Audrey Hepburn was good at acting, dancing, and singing. She just loved to perform. Audrey Hepburn wasn't known for all that, it was mostly her beauty. She is known for one of the most beautiful women of all time. Audrey Hepburn has been in several films, broad way productions and has won tons of awards for several things. She is also known for her children's fund, Audrey Hepburn Fund. ( Biography.com 2013 ) Legacy What She is Known For Audrey Hepburn stopped performing for awhile and helped children around the world. She helped children that need food, children that have no where to live, children with illnesses, etc. She made several trips to Africa, Asia, Central and South America. She won a Academy Award for her humanitarian work (1993). Then Audrey Hepburn died on January 20, 1993. ( Biography.com 2013 ) Audrey continued her film career. She was in the romantic thriller, Charade. After the performance she was in My Fair Lady, Then she was a blind woman in Wait Until Dark. Her performance in that film was outstanding! She won her fifth Academy Award nomination. That year her and Mel Ferrer separated. Then 1969 she married Andrea Dotti and they had a son, Luca, in 1970. ( Biography.com 2013 ) After Audrey died her sons wanted to make a children's fund because they wanted to continue their mother's humanitarian work. The Audrey Hepburn Children's Fund, this fund is connected to hospitals for children and help children that have been abused and neglect, it also bring children back into school.
