Transcript of Manly Beach VIVID 2015

Vivid 2013 had a record attendance of about 650,000 people over 18 days.
2014 broke the record yet again with 1.43 million people, a 79% increase over the 2013 attendance.

This rapid influx of visitors put public transport at capacity, with even greater attendance expected next year, expansion is inevitable.
Expand Vivid to include Manly, which will not only increase the capacity and experience for attendees, but will also lessen the load on Sydney CBD and highlight Manly as an ultimate overnight destination.

Population of the Northern beaches target region is approximately 259,940. Visitation may extend further a field to the central coast.

Manly and the Northern beaches operate from a separate transportation grid than Sydney CBD.

The International College of Management Sydney is a beautiful, historical building that would reflect the achievement of the 2013 Museum of Contemporary Art Australia exhibit.
The North Head is a natural, blank canvas background for a projection show that guests on the ferry ride would enjoy

Manly has a wide range of versatile locations for music workshops and entertainment, including at many of its 130 bars, restaurants and cafes.

Crowd range can cause the location to vary, including intimate crowds of 50 at Belgrave Cartel, to live music venues for 500 at Hotel Steyne to major outdoor concert arenas for 10,000 at Manly Oval.

Manly has several wide pedestrian paths, and grassy promanades to accommodate street performers, light installations, entertainment and activations.

Manly is well versed in the management of large crowds, including events which can draw up to 60,000 people a day.
Key events include Boxing Day, New Year’s Eve, Australia Day and the Australian Open of Surfing.

The layout of Manly creates natural crowd flow via the Manly beach promonade, Manly Harbour esplanade and The Corso strip, joining the two.
Major focal points on the ferry ride from Sydney CBD to Manly may include; Fort Denison, Balmoral Bathers, North Head, and Quarantine Station.

Buildings throughout Manly may include; Manly Wharf, Town Hall, St. Matthews Church, and International College of Management Sydney.

Light walks and activations may flow along Manly beach, the harbour and The Corso.

"Vivid Sydney is a huge hit with retailers, with many reporting double and triple the takings of a normal night. In fact Gelato Messina at Martin Place sold an extra 1,000 gelato sundaes on Saturday night alone, and over the weekend went through around 900kgs of gelato." - Mr. Stoner
During Vivid, Garfish had a 13% increase in sales at their Kirribilli location and a 10% decrease in sales in Manly as more customers traveled into the city.
By bringing Vivid to Manly, we are insuring that our local restaurants and businesses are benefiting from the influx of visitors, rather than spectators simply pass thru as the make their way to Sydney.
