The Elements of Music
Melody
Harmony
-the simultaneous combination of tones, especially when blended into chords pleasing to the ear
Rhythm
-the pattern of pulses caused in music by the occurrence of strong and weak melodic & harmonic beats
Tone Color
-the characteristic quality of sound produced by a particular instrument or voice
DO try this at home...
-the rhythmical succession of single tones
producing a distinct musical phrase or idea
"the part you hum"
OR
OR
"the part you don't hum"
OR
"the part you clap"
OR
"how it sounds"
OR
"the different parts"
Form
-structure of a musical work based on repetition, contrast and variation; the organizing principle in music.
Melodies don't have to be complicated. In fact, the simpler the melody, the more likely people will remember it. For example...
-Melodies can be sung or played by an instrument
-Most successful songs have a "catchy" melody
Two types of harmony:
1. harmonizing with the melody
2. the supporting chords
-Harmony is less memorable than melody
-Many songs in popular music use a limited number of chords to support the melody.
Some styles of music rely on more involved rhythms as a characteristic of their signature sound.
Playing the same music on a different instrument can completely change how the song sounds.
-Many common forms used in music (similar to poetry)
-Most popular songs follow a similar
verse/chorus form
Ooh i need your love babe,
Guess you know it's true.
Hope you need my love babe,
Just like i need you.

Hold me, love me, hold me, love me.
Ain't got nothing but love babe,
Eight days a week.

Love you every day girl,
Always on my mind.
One thing i can say girl,
Love you all the time.

Hold me, love me, hold me, love me.
Ain't got nothing but love girl,
Eight days a week.

Eight days a week I love you.
Eight days a week is not enough to show i care.
