South Asia
Near Geography
Hinduism, Islam and Buddhism are the major religions in South Asia.
Hindu religion requires the people to carry their dharma.
This religion believes that after someone dies, they are reborn in another body.
Buddism was created by a man named Siddhartha Gautama, also known as Buddha or the Awaked One. He taught people to think smart and to not get attached to material things if they want to live happily.
Buddha did not care about the money and instead helped the poor people. Because of this, women and lower social classes embrace his teachings.
South Asia is territorial and full of conflicts, both between religions and countries.
In the Himilayas on 5,000 tourist visas are given a year and some islands are closed of to tourist.
They are very religious and expect their customs to be followed exactly.
Language:Speak 19 major languages.
Languages spoken in Pakistan, Bangladesh, and northern India include Hindu, Urdu, and Bengali.
English is the common languange for businesses and tourism.

Bhutan: Export-Cardamom; Import-Fuels
India: Export-Gems and Jewelery; Import- Crude Oil
Maldives: Export-Fish; Import-Machinery
Nepal: Export-Clothing; Import-Petroleum Products
Pakistan: Export-Clothing; Import-Petroleum
Sri Lankan: Export-Textiles; Import- Machinery
Textiles, Iron Ore, Mica, Oil and Petroluem are major industries.
Timber is an export of every country in South Asia except Sri Lanka, which banned the export of timber in 1977 to protect the rainforest.
South Asia is trying to better develop their education system in order to raise their literacy rates and status for members of the lower economic class. With a better intellectual system there is an expected rise in the standard living quality.
India fought for its independence from Great Britain colonization in the early and mid 1900's with nonviolent methods and were lead by Mohandas K. Gandhi.
Great Britain granted India independence in 1947.

South Asia consists of India, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and Maldives.
South Asia is just out of the Asian Continent like a pointed tooth with the Arabian Sea, the Indian Ocean, and the Bay of Bengal bordering it.
The Himalayas mountains separate South Asia from the rest with Mount Everest being the highest place on Earth.
South of it the land becomes fertile lowlands that are watered by the Indus, Brahmaputra, and Ganges Rivers.
South Asia has a variety of weather patterns and land forms from snowy highland to scorching deserts which are at high risk of monsoons.
India has two popular epic poems known as the Mahabharata and the Ramayana, which combine religious and Hindu social beliefs
Muhammad Iqbal was a Muslim poet and philosopher who first propose the idea of an Islamic state.
Motion pictures arrived in India in 1896.
India's film industry "Bollywood" is the world's largest.
Music and Dance
The dances practiced in the south are based on Hindu mythology. Bharata Natyam
Women wear bright silk saris and gold jewerly.
In India's west coast the style is known as Kathakali.
Male dancers wear colorful masks.
Two types of music: Hindustani and Karnatic.
The Hindu temples of India with domed shrines or Buddhist stupas.
Fortified monasteries, dzong .
Taj Mahal ans the Golden Temple are world famous.

In India, Hindu men dress in bright yellow robes and roam from temples.
In the streets and roads, thousands of cows roam freely. Hindus consider cattle sacred.
Women wear the chador, robe and veil, that is required for modesty.
Religious destriction prohibit Muslims from eating pork and beef.
