Logo and Masthead: The masthead is located at the top of the page, in white on a black background so that it stands out and catches the attention of a reader. It is also large so that you can see it when its stacked on the shelves. The masthead is very recognizable to alot of people as it is a very popular magazine and covers all music genres. This suggests that the target audience is just people interested in all music.
Coverlines: These are red and stands out and contrasts on the black background. The main cover line that is in the biggest font says 'Pop Rocks!'. Billboard magazine usually features different kinds of music but we can see that this magazine published specifically features pop artists. This will attract people who enjoy listening to this genre. Underneath in smaller typography it says artists like 'Gaga' and 'Calvin Harris'. These are both artists well known to the pop genre.
Main Image: The main image of this magazine features pop/country artist Carrie Underwood. Firstt she is wearing black to blend in with the background. Shes been made to look slightly evil to show that she is a fierce woman in the music industry. She also been made to look slightly mystical with her hair blowing in the air and her clothing all flowy. This is probably because she is an idol to many young girls around the world. Shes also been sexualised - female singers usually are.
Strapline: The strapline is talking about 'music in the liquor market'. Firstly by this we can see that the magazine is not only aimed at teenagers but also adults. Also alot of liquor markets are held with live music so this article inside may be explaining that it is on a rise and they are getting more and more popular.
Colours: The colours used are aimed at both men and women. They are very simple colours but stand out to people buying the magazine. The majority of the typography is written in white and red because they stand out on the black background and black image. All the colours link together and look very eye catching and would stand out on a news stand.
Front Cover Analysis #2
Logo and Masthead: The Rolling Stone mast head on the magazine is covered by the main image of Taylor Swift. The masthead is written in white and outlined in black. This magazine is one of the most famous out of all music magazines so people know what magazine it is even if they don't see all of it. The black outline helps stand out on the creme coloured background. All the other typography on the page (including the coverlines) are all white so they look professional together.
Coverlines: The coverlines are all written in white to stand out against the main image. They include artists like Green Day and U2 because this magazine is for all types o music so it will appeal to everyone. The main coverline says 'Taylor Swift, Secrets Of A Good Girl'. This is because Taylor Swift is the main theme of the magazine and people will buy it purely for her so they will want to know on the front what Taylor will be talking about inside. The font type is very similar in every issue of Rolling Stone magazine.
Colours: The colors are very sandy colours. There is some browns, blondes, cremes, whites and black. Her makeup is very contrasting wit the guitar and everything matches very well. This has the connotations of her looking very pure and innocent. The lighter colours may indicate the sweet girl that Taylor Swift is.
Main Image: The main image is o Taylor Swift. This magazine features all different ypes of music in so this will appeal to alot of people. Taylor's fan base is usually young and teenage girls. The image stands out on the background so it will catch the eye of potential buyers. Shes been made to look very sweet and pretty because of her young fan base and as she is a idol to many people she doesn't want to be giving out a provocative image of herself. Her image fits in very well with the stereotypical 'country look'. With her curly hair blowing in the wind, her neutral eye makeup and her guitar. The colours are all very eye catching and neutral.
Double Page Spread Analysis #1
Main Image: The main image is of Carrie Underwood on the left side of the page so that people know what Carrie Underwood looks like. Shes made out to look very pretty and sweet because this magazine will be bought by her younger fan base. She has the stereotypical sweet country/pop look. Her grey dress matches the background but is lighter so that she stands out and catches the ey of the reader.
Main Text: The main text is white so that it stands out on the main background. The text is all the same font type just so its look professional. All the font seems to follow the same colour scheme just so it looks presentable to the readers
Colours: The colours used are quite neutral. The yellows and whites stand out on the grey background. they connatate pureness and innocence which is how Carrie Underwood is seen by her younger fans.
Double Page Spread Analysis #2
Main Heading: The masthead 'Taylor Swift' is right at the top of the article so that the readers know who it is about. It is in black, large font on the white background so tat it stands out. The second heading is 'I'm A Dangerous Girl To Date'. The majority of the font is in white on the black background so that it stands out although the word dangerous is red because it will attract readers. Taylor Swift is seen as the nice girl in the media so to see an interview saying that shes dangerous to date it will appeal to many readers because they want to read this article.
Colours: The colours used are usually black, white and red. They will attract both girls and boys. They are very different color to what they would usually see on a Taylor Swift double page spread beause we'd usually see very girly colours like pink and purples.
Main Image and Images: Firstly we have the large full body shot of Taylor. This shows Taylor in a purple dress. Her dress is what you would expect of a country singer - typical codes and conventions of the country music genre. Her dress is blowing up which reminds us of that iconic photo of Marilyn Monroe making Taylor Swift look like some idol. All the other images on the page are of a few of the many guys Taylor has dated linking to the heading 'I'm a dangerous girl to date' - making her seem like quite a maneater and player as she has had a fair few boyfriends
Main Text: The main text is black so that it it stands out on the white background.
Contents Page Analysis #1
Masthead: The masthead is just simple saying 'contents'. It is written in white on different colours so that it stands out on the colourful background. Also so that it appeals to males and females.
Main Text: The main text is black on the white background so that it stands out to the reader. Each section is labelled with a title eg. 'reviews' or 'features' so that the reader can simple see if they were looking for anything specifically.
Colours: The colour scheme is very simple usually black and white because they appeal to both girls and boys and are very eye catching. They also ma the magazine look very proffesional.
Images: The main image is of a well known singer/guitarist - this obviously shows that this is a music magazine. If the artist is well known more people will be attracted to buy the magazine
Special feaures - I believe that I can vaguely see an 'editor comment' part on the right side of the page. This gives the reader a personal touch to it with the opinion on this weeks magazine issue. Also a the bottom there is te 'contributors'.
Contents Page Analysis #2
Main Text: The main text is black and grey on the white background so that they attract the reader and it is simple to read. There are sub titles so that they readers are able to pick something out speciically if they want to find it.
Main Images: There are a few different images. This looks like a very old contents page by the quality of the images. The main image is of a famous folk/country artist, this will attract readers to buy the magazine. He may also be one of the main focuses of this issue. This magazine may be aimed at older readers just by the music type and the artists that feature inside.
Masthead: The masthead isn't very visible - it says 'Guitar Techniques'. Hence why the entire magazine is revolved around guitars and the folk/country music genre. This will attract people that possibly are learning how to play guitar or people wanting to develop their skills. It is written in black and yellow on the white background. Although it isn't successful in standing out to the readers.
Colours: The colours which are browns, white, yellow are very expected of this genre of music. They fit in with the codes and conventions of the country/ folk music genre.
Special features: This magazine comes with a disc of tips/ songs that you could learn on guitar. They are shown in the contents page and it tells you which song is which track number. This will help the reader find what track they are looking for and its good for people who arent so visual but audio learners
Front Cover Analysis #3
Logo and Masthead: The masthead stands out very much on the white background and also because it is at the top of the page. Therefore in the shop the magazine cover will stand out on the new stand. I believe the main reason why the title is plain is because the magazine is aimed at all music genres so they keep it plain and simple so it doesn't link into one convention of a certain genre.
Coverlines: You can tell from the cover lines on the music magazine that it is aimed at people with loves of all kinds of genres. It features musicians of all kinds of genres outling the main theme of the whole magazine which is several music genres. The typography of the cover lines are all different colours eg. reds, oranges and blacks so that it appeals to both men and women. The main coverline in the centre of the magazine is 'Country's Sexiest Success Story is Back'. As it is white it stands out on the page and people who are a fan of that band or the country music genre will be attracted to buy the magazine.

The main image is of all the mmebers of the country band Lady Antebellum, this shows that they are the main focus/ story for this week/months issue of Billboard magazine. This image will stand out on news stands because it against a white background and against the masthead. In the image they are wearing stereotypically very country clothing (alot of denims) - links with the code of conventions of the country genre. It stands out on the white background.
The colours are very mixed, there are alot of variety of colours so it appeals to both men and women. Also these colours indicate that it is aimed at people of like a variety of music genres because it doesn't follow the code and conventions of one type of genre music magazine. The colours are mainly very bright eg. reds, oranges so that it stands out on the plain background.
Front Cover Analysis #4
Masthead: The masthead is white so that it stands out on the dark background and so that it catches the eye on the new stands. The masthead is covered by the main image showing that this must be a very popular music magazine in the country genre if the readers know what magazine it is with half the title covered. The typography fits in with the codes and conventions of what you would typically see on a music magazine.
Coverlines: The coverlines are all very vibrant colours such as; white and yellow so that it stands out on the black background. I would suspect that because of the colour choice of the front cover the main feature Toby Keith's music is aimed at more men than women. You will notice that in the cover lines the artists are highlighted in yellow writing and the typography is very large - this is so that the reader see's the names on the newstands as they want to read all about these artists they love.
Main Image: the main image is of the country star that is the main feature of this music magazine - Toby Keith. The main image is very bold as it stands out on the dark background. his look fits in with the codes and conventions of a country music magazine. He's wearing the typical cowbod hat and a buttoned-up shirt to fit in with the country look.
Colours: the colours used are mainly very bright - as the background is very dark they need to be vibrant to stand out on the background. The colours will also appeal to men and women so that both genders will buy that magazine.
Main Heading: The main heading is 'My inspriation' and then the sub heading is 'music was my last resort' this will appeal to people because it grabs the audience so hey want to read more. Also it stands out on the background so it very eye catching.
Double page spread analysis 3
Heading: The heading is very eye catching purely because its a very controversial statement in terms of celebrity. Lily Allen is known for speaking her mind and this heading is very bold and is very striking to someone buying the magazine because it stands out so much. This heading will persuade the reader because they'll want to hear more about her troubled ways.
Colours: the colours are very simple yet link with the image of Lily Allen. She's known to be quite a rebel and the white, black and red featured in this double page spread really shows that. The red and black is also outlined by the white background so this is very appealing to the audience
Main Image: This is of Lily - she stands out alot on the white background. Her image is fits in very well with the codes and conventions of pop/reggae fusion. her look is very rough and grunge like - with her messy hair and checkered shop looking very messy fits in with how she is percieved by the public. She seems like the type of person who isn't really bothered how anyone see's her and just does what she pleases.
Main Text: The main text is black which stands out on the white background and catches the eye of the readers.
Double Page Spread Analysis 4
Heading: The heading is "USA got the love' - this headline is very eyecatching to the reader because the reader will want to know about Florence's growing success in the USA. It is also quite catchy as Florence has a machine called 'you've got the love' so Florences fans are aware that this this article is about her.
Colours: The colours are very eycatching t the reader. Black, red and white have been used as th are quite daring colours and vocally Florence is very daring. It is what you would expect to see in an article about her. Also these colours would appeal to both men and women as they are both interested in Florence's music. The cloth that florence is sitting on looks like the American flag, this stands out and outlines the theme of this article - her conquering the USA.
Main Image: The main image stands out immensely on the white background. In this article Florence is wearing black shoes and a black dress, this connatates rebellious and mysterious which is how you could describe her music. She's got a very unique and peculiar voice but she is very talented. It shows the audience that she is the main focus of the article.
Main text: the main text is black and stands out on the white background so it attracts the reader.
Contents Page Analysis 3
Masthead: The mast head is very artistic and catches the eyes of the reader because it stands out on the black background
Colours: The colours used are very dark and mysterious. The main image links with the colours alot because its exploiting women. The main colours are greys and blacks which shows that this magazine may not be suitable for younger people because it may feature images of women and that are suitable or the eyes of some people.
Main text: The main text is black so that it stands out on the grey background and attracts the audience.
Main image: The main is of a young woman in what looks like a leotard. This links in with the Male Gaze because women are often seen as sexual objects rather than intelligent people just purely for their bold assets. This may also outline the theme of this music magazine which may possibly be rap because in that they usually speak and show scantily clad women
Special features: alot of the special features are about love and sex which may also outline the theme of the magazine which could rap because in that they speak about sex, love and drugs alot.
Contents Page Analysis 4

Main image: The main image really outlines what kind of person West is, he seems to have a woman's arm draped around him showing him that he is a bit of a player when it comes to the ladies. Also he is shown in black and grey which shows that he is a very mysterious and sometimes evil person because he tends to speak his mind and sometimes in the wrong situations. As he is featured it may show that this magazine is about rap music.
