Transcript of Merits & Demerits

Jenee Bartosh Demerits & Merits Program Demerits & Merits An idea was born Demerits & Merits After a semester Program for student behavior C3 Competition Points I decided to tie-in points given to the C3 teams for a variety of different things:
Number of As
Least Demerits
Least Saturday School Slips
Most homework logs Nobel Charters schools
Chicago, IL Last January I was a part of a team that went to visit 2 schools in Chicago.
One school was Pritzker College Prep Charter school.
They had a demerits and merits program in place that worked very well for their school. In the 6 years I have been at
HCPA we have gone through
5 student safety specialists

Teachers were frustrated with the lack of
consequences for bad behaviors as well as no
reward for good behavior. I took the demerits and merits program from that
school and altered it to fit our school.
In February of 2012 I put together a proposal and got permission to pilot the program in the middle school at my school. I asked both the staff and the students involved to take a survey about the program. Demerits are points given to students
for certain unwanted behaviors Merits are points awarded to students for doing good things. http://www.surveymonkey.com/ This year We rolled out the program whole school with added buttons to our PowerSchool to make is easier for teachers. https://hcpa.powerschool.com/admin/pw.html Results this year The reaction from the whole staff has been so-so.
Many are still trying to get used to the system. All teachers had to do was enter in log entries and I took care of the rest. The only bad thing we found was teachers couldn't see the log entries only I could. How the system worked The team with the most points at the end of the month was given an out of uniform day.
