Mario Fortino Alfonso Moreno Reyes, better known as Mario Moreno, or his stage name, "Cantiflas" was born on August 12, 1911 in Mexico City, Mexico. He was a comic film actor, producer and screenwriter.

It is said that Mario Moreno's stage name, "Cantiflas" comes from the old saying, "En la cantina, inflas." (You get drunk in a bar room.) The phrase amused Moreno so much that he mixed the saying together and came up with "Cantiflas." Though nobody knows where "Cantiflas" really comes from, not even Moreno's family.

Love Life
"Cantiflas" was one of the biggest stars ever in the spanish language films, though, he never forgot where he came from. Moreno died a millionare but throughout his life he was constantly donating money to charitable work. At the peak of his career, "Cantiflas" was earning $1.5 million a year and was refered to as the world's highest paid comedian.
He Made How Much?!
"Cantiflas" was married to Valentina Ivanova Zuvareff for 30 years. (1936-1966) Moreno and his wife (who was unable to have kids due to medical reasons) had one adopted child: Mario Arturo Moreno Ivanova.
Mario Moreno died April 20, 1993 (age 81) due to lung cancer.
Charlie Chaplin once called him the "Best comedian alive."
He was often refered to as the "Charlie Chaplin of Mexico."
Moreno released about 49 movies throughout his career. Many of which featured his wife. (Valentina Ivanova Zuvareff)
