Unit 3: Reframing Venture Philanthropy
Transcript of Unit 3: Reframing Venture Philanthropy
The Project of Reframing
Reframe the equation
Denotation vs. Connotation
Private Investment = Public Good
does not always
equal PUBLIC good because public good is not universal.
Reframing as a methodology:
1: Reframing is about taking much greater control over the ways in which indigenous issues and social problems are discussed and handled. One of the reasons why so many of the social problems which beset indigenous communities are never solved is that the issues have been framed in a particular way.
2: Reframing occurs in other contexts where indigenous people resist being boxed and labeled according to categories which do not fit.
3: Reframing occurs also within the way indigenous people write or engage with theories and accounts of what it means to be indigenous
To reframe means to withhold judgement and to consider other voices, opinions, experiences
Denotation is the strict dictionary, or literal, definition, or meaning, of a word.
Connotation is the emotional and imaginative association surrounding a particular word.
