Transcript of The Nile Delta

The Nile Delta
A delta is a landform at a mouth of a river as it flows into a basin or salt sea. The Nile delta is located in Egypt at the end of the Nile River as it runs into the Mediterranean Sea. The delta's location is
30° 54′ 0″ N, 31° 7′ 0″ E. The Nile delta supplies
most of Northern Egypt with water. The Delta is used mostly for farming due to the fertile soil.
What And Where Is the Nile Delta?
How Did People Use The Nile Delta?
The Nile Delta was used by the Ancient Egyptians. The Nile River would flood yearly and leave behind nutrient rich silt that was used for farming. The delta was used to farm food for the Nile cites.
The Nile Delta is the fertile area of the desert surrounding the river and the delta.
What Are the Impacts?
One of the main impacts on the Nile Delta is that the Aswan Dam built 1898. the dam sits up stream from the delta. the dam stopps the yearly flood that left behind nutrient rich silt that was used for farming which had big impacts on the farmers. The silt helped keep the river banks from collapsing, but now the delta is eroding at at a rate of 50 km2 per year.
What are the solutions to the impacts?
One solutions is to open the flood gates a little bit to allow some silt through. Another is to pile it in to boats or trucks and transport it down river but this is a less efficient way because of the long distance between the delta and the dam.
How do people use the Nile delta today?
Today people use chemical fertilizers instead of silt because of the Aswan Dam
which is stopping the yearly flood.
