Elijah Freeman
Elijah makes a return as a main
character who plays a major role in the second half. Benjamin describes him as the unofficial mayor.
Setting
The setting takes place in Buxton, Canada
in the 1900s after the civil war.
My favorite scene is when all the main characters and then some go to the forest after something traumatizing happens.
Theme
The theme in the story is don't believe everything you hear. I believe so because they hear stories that makes Cooter ( the madman) as an evil man. However, when Benji and Red gets to know him, they discover he is a very nice person.
Known as "The Madman of Piney Woods" by Benji and the "South Woods Lion Man" by Red, this character is someone from the original book who lives in the woods for a reason....
The genre of the story is historical fiction since it takes place after the civil war (which chapter one proves), there isn't any form of modern technology, and some characters were also around in the 1850s.
The person who I consider a secondary antagonist is the father of Curly Bennett, one of Alvin's friends. Curly's father constantly gets drunk and harms his family, including nearly breaking one of Curly's bones. He also does something else that makes him an antagonist.
One of the main protagonist is Benjamin "Benji" Alston. He has a dream of becoming a journalist for a newspaper in Buxton. He is the son of Timothy Alston Sr. and Hope from "Elijah of Buxton." He is not the same person that had brought an injured Mr. Highgate to Buxton in the last book.
Another main protagonist is Alvin "Red" Stockard, who lives in Chatham. He has the goal of becoming a scientist and was the one to find out something that happens later. Red lost his mother when he was very young.
The main antagonist in the story is Red's grandmother, who goes by Grandmother O'toole. She is from Ireland and has suffered tragic events. She constantly hurts or insults Red. There are three types of people she hates:
Recommendations
I recommend this to anyone who enjoyed "Elijah of Buxton" and wants to see how they grow.
