WHY OUR FAMILY CHOOSES TO EAT FARM TO TABLE For breakfast I had: For lunch I had: Ingredients from my breakfast: Ingredients from my lunch: 153 What can your family do to
eat more locally? PIE CHART Hydrogenated Oil Butter (Joan Dye Gussow is the former Chair of Nutrition Education at Teacher's College at Columbia University) Food from local farms retain more of the natural
vitamins and nutrients. We call this being
"nutrient dense." We can eat from our local farms.
Local farms have "real food." Those that nature gives us, plants, roots, fruits, nuts, seeds, meats, eggs, milk and those made from it. Fake foods are those that human beings create trying to imitate the natural food. to do with all of those chemicals? Our bodies do not know what to do to with all those chemicals and multiple man-made ingredients. It stresses our bodies, and causes us to become sick much more easily. So, why do foods have so many chemicals, and preservatives? Food from the supermarket has to travel an average 1,500 miles before it ends up on your plate. In order to do that it must be picked early before it is ripe, so it can make it to the grocery store without spoiling. It has to be treated with various chemicals so it can sit on the grocery store shelves for longer periods of time. When you buy your food from local farms, and farmers markets. It goes from a field to our plates. It doesn't have to travel very far, so it doesn't need to be treated with chemicals and preservatives. So, what can we do to reduce the amount of chemicals and man-made ingredients that we eat? How Did We Change?
1) We buy our meats, eggs, fruits and vegetables from local farms, and farmers markets.
2) We try to eat what is in season.
3) We prepare as many meals and desserts at home using real food ingredients, instead of boxed prepackaged foods.
4) We avoid artificial, and chemically altered ingredients in our food. Things like, food coloring, hydrogenated fats/oils, and high fructose corn syrup. What Happened In Our House?
As a result of these changes, we are healthier. We have almost no illnesses in our house this year, and Tyler had no sick days from school!

Please let me introduce a real live farmer, and one of our farmers, Mrs. Judy England from England Acres Farm in Mt. Airy. Real food is less "messed with" and doesn't come
from a lab or factory, it comes from a farm or is made with a few simple real ingredients. Results for our family? We have great tasting meals. We are healthier, and have had very little illnesses this past year. Tyler had no absences due to sick days for the entire school year! Please let me introduce a real life local farmer, and owner of England Acres Farm in Mt. Airy, Mrs. Judy England. Vegetable(s) Oil Blend

Meal Math + - x ÷ 138 FEWER
INGREDIENTS!!! And the best part is... Not only are we healthier, but our food tastes better too!

For example, since local produce doesn't have to travel so far, it is allowed to ripen before it is picked, the way nature intended. This alone gives us less chemicals AND better flavor! Ask your parents to visit a local farm and taste for themselves
Go to farmers markets
Grow your own fruits, herbs, and vegetables
Try to eat more "real food" ingredients
