Moon Phase

Why does the moon have phases?
Each month our Moon passes through eight phases. These phases are named after how much of the moon we can see, and whether the amount visible is increasing, or decreasing each day

NAME THAT PHASE???

Supplies: Hangers, Styrofoam balls, paint, string.
Students will create 3d models of the moon phases by using Styrofoam balls and paint to create the shadows that are cast on the moon during each phase. Cut each Styrofoam ball in half and have students paint on the moon phase on a half of a ball. When they have completed all of the 8 phases, connect the Styrofoam balls to pieces of string, then hang the phases in order on a hanger. Then, you will have a moon phase mobile!
