The Ornithopter By:Puneet Bagga What Is A Ornithopter? Who Made It? What Inspired Him? How Does It Work? Bibliography An ornithopter is a machine that fly’s by flapping its wings. Most ornithopters are the size of small birds. Man carrying models have been attempted but there has been no success.
http://www.wisegeek.com/what-is-an-ornithopter.htm Leonardo da Vinci, the famous inventor in Italy made the designs and made a prototype ornithopter in the year 1486-1490 he made his design by doing research on the flight of birds. Flight of birds inspired Leonardo da Vinci to design the Ornithopter. Everyday when he came home from work he used to buy birds from the bird market. On reaching home he released the birds free. He was very fascinated by the fact that the birds could fly. He also wanted to fly like them. So he designed the ornithopter. Leonardo da Vinci proposed a device in which the aviator lies down on a plank and works two large, membranous wings using hand levers, foot pedals, and a system of pulleys. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ornithopter http://www.lairweb.org.nz/leonardo/ornithopters.html http://www.gizmag.com/go/3533/ gamingdead.com/.../ 2009/11/ornithopter.jpg http://webtafe.com/juanm/juanm/images/leonardoastrology.jpg susannassketchbook.typepad.com/.../ birds_2.jpg www.wright-brothers.org/ History_Wing/History_...
