B Overall: As Commander in Chief, John F. Kennedy had to deal with:
1. The Bay of Pigs
2. The Cuban Missile Crisis
3. The Space Race A- Why this grade?
Although JFK made a big mistake in sending Cuban exiles into Cuba to overthrow the Castro government, he was able to control and eliminate the threat of the Cuban Missile Crisis and help the United States take a giant leap ahead in the Space Race. Cuban Missile Crisis
On October 1962, American U-2 planes photographed nuclear missile sights being built in the Soviet island of Cuba .
This created a crisis, but Kennedy was supported in his decision.
Kennedy responded to the Soviets by creating a naval blockade around Cuba.
This quarantine was to prevent the Soviets from bringing in more military supplies.
Soviets dismantled the weapons in exchange that the United States does not invade Cuba.
The Missile Crisis was now over, but the Arms Race was not... The Bay of Pigs
April 14, 1961, Kennedy sent troops of Cuban exiles into Cuba to overthrow the government of Castro.
This mission was a told failure. The Space Race
After the Missile Crisis the race slowed down for America.
Kennedy wanted to restore Americas confidence. JFK asked for an additional 7 to 9 billion over the next 5 years for the space program.
Kennedy did not want to match the Soviets, but surpass them. Civil Rights
This was Kennedy's most diverse issue
JFK concentrated on enforcing existing civil rights acts and passing new ones.
Trying to speed the process of desegregation, Kennedy sent troops to the southern states who refused to desegregate schools. B+ Why this grade?
Although Kennedy was not able to pass many laws, he was able to make a difference in the Civil Rights Movement. As Chief Executive Kennedy had two main goals:
1. Stop Communism in all Country's
2. Civil Rights A Civil Rights
Equal Rights Bill
Made racial discrimination in public areas such as hotels and restaurants, illegal.
Equal employment opportunities
Federal funds cut to those who discriminated on race. Communism
Kennedy believed in the Domino theory- if communism is in one country then it will spread to other country's then the rest of the world.
Kennedy felt that the United States must stand up to communism and help all country's have a democratic government Why this grade?
Kennedy used his powers as President to get the Equal Bill of Rights passed, which was a huge topic at the time. He also stood up to communism. A A Overall, Kennedy did well as Chief of Party, however he died before his work could be analyzed Social president, received many famous diplomats & celebrities
Most famous trip - West Berlin
USA was generally well liked
Major Negotiations
Cuban Missile Crisis
Nuclear Ban Test Treaty with the UK & Soviet Union
Saw the beginning of the Cold War

"Let us never negotiate out of fear. But let us not fear to negotiate." B Although he didn't have to handle much while in office, he could have done a better job. His negotiations were not always successful however the USA was perceived well abroad.
