What is Red Ribbon?
Red Ribbon is a drug prevention campaign that tries to prevent and protect children from the dangers of:
Alcohol
Other Drugs (ex. Marijuana and Cocaine)
It allows the community to focus on stopping the spread of drugs and to draw attention to the millions who have pledged to be drug-free.


Objective:
Spread and prevent the outcomes of drugs and alcohol to children

Enrique "Kiki" Camarena, a Drug Enforcement Administration Agent was tortured to death in Mexico by five men who were either drugged or drunk in Mexico of 1985
In honor of Camarena, his community made Red Ribbon Week to fight against illegal drugs and alcohol in 1988 by wearing red ribbons in honor of the fallen hero

Alcohol Statistics
In 2013, 3.5% of 8th graders abused alcohol
By the 8th grade, 28% of adolescents have consumed alcohol and 5% have smoked cigarettes

DON'T BE AFRAID TO ASK
Schools want to bring awareness of drug and alcohol overdose
They want to tell that doing drugs and drinking would prevent you from achieving your goals
Why do schools like peterson participate?
By 8th grade, 16.5% have used marijuana
In 2008, an estimated 20.1 million Americans ages 12 or older (8.0%) were current (past-month) illicit drug users.
