Association football, mostly known as football or soccer, is a sport played between two teams of eleven players with a round ball. It is played by 250 million players in over 200 countries, making soccer the world's most popular sport. Soccer is played on a rectangular field with a goal at each end of the field. The point of the game is to score a goal by kicking the ball into your opponent's goal.
The goalkeepers are the only players allowed to touch the ball with their hands or arms while it is in their penalty area only. Outfield players use their feet to kick the ball, but sometimes players use their head to strike the ball instead of the feet. The team that scores the most goals by the end of a match wins.
Soccer has “rules” by which the game is played. Most of these rules are easy to understand. The rules are made to make soccer fun, safe, and fair for all players.
The point of soccer is for a player to get the ball into the other team’s goal by using any part of the body except their hands and arms. The goalie is the only player allowed to touch the ball with the hands, arms and only while he/she is allowed to use their hands in the own penalty area.
A referee is in charge of a soccer game. A referee’s main goal should be the safety of the players. It is the referee’s responsibility to make sure that the game remains fun for everyone. This includes players, spectators and the officials.

A soccer pitch is the playing surface for the game of soccer made out of turf. The pitch is in a rectangle shape. All line markings on the pitch form part of the area which they name. For example, a ball on or above the touchline is still on the field of play; a ball on the line of the goal area is in the goal area; and a foul committed over the 16.5-metre (18-yard) line has occurred in the penalty area. Therefore a ball must completely cross the touchline to be out of play, and a ball must totally cross the goal line (between the goal posts) before a goal is scored; if any part of the ball is still on or above the line, the ball is still in play.
The Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) international controlling body of Association Football, Futsal and Beach Soccer. Its membership adds up to 209 national associations. FIFA's headquarters is in Zurich, Switzerland, and the president is Sepp Blatter. FIFA is responsible for the organization of football's major international tournaments, especially the World Cup.

A kick i
aken by a player from the penalty spot after a penalty has been given by the referee for damages in the goalies area by the defending team.
A throw in is taken by a player when the opposition has put the ball over the sideline. The throw must be taken from where the ball went out of play. A throw in must be taken with a player standing facing the field, with feet apart and part of both touching the ground. His hands must be placed firmly on either side of the ball, with the fingers apart and pointing straight ahead.
A corner kick is taken by the attacking team that is earned when the defending team puts the ball out of play behind the goal line.
The Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA), FIFA World Cup, is often called ''The World Cup'', is an international of football competition contested by seniors men's national teams members of FIFA.
The competition is held every four years since the beginning of the tournament in 1930, except in 1942 and 1946 when it was not held because of the World War Two. The current champions are Spain, who won the whole in 2010 FIFA World Cup tournament and the next FIFA World Cup is in 2014 held in Brazil.
The way that the tournament works is that 32 teams are competing for the title at the ground within the host nation over a period of about a month; this stage is often called ''The World Cup Finals''. A qualification stage, which currently takes place over the three years, is used to determine which teams qualify for the tournament of FIFA World Cup.
