One fact at a time, this presentation will walk you through the culture of the amazing Nuer Tribe.

CULTURE: POPULATION, RELIGION, and LANGUAGE

To be more exact, the tribe lives somewhere around here.

  • About 48,000 people are in the Nuer Tribe
  • Their religion is Nitolic
  • They speak Nitolic

The tribe lives in South Sudan, Africa.

CULTURE: SEASONS

The Nuer Tribe has two seasons. Tot(rain) and Mai(dry).

The Nuer's living style changes depending on the seasons.

When tot season arrives, the rivers rise, so they have to live on higher ground until the season is over.

CULTURE: TRIBAL SCARS

This tribe gets facial markings/scars as a way to represent going into adulthood.

The men usually get six horizontal lines across their forehead.

The women usually get dotted patterns all over their face.

CULTURE: FOOD

Most of what they eat has fish, grains, and vegetables. They also eat meat and fruits.

They think they should not be killed for eating reasons.

Goats, sheep, and especially cattle are a big part of religious festivals

Though, they do sacrifice those animals if they are going to be sacrificed to the god Kwoth and/or are being sacrificed for a religious reason.

After the animals are killed, they do eat them.

Animals are used like money in the Nuer Tribe. They barter with animals and buy with animals.
