Transcript of Enzymes

Why are they important?
They are essential to sustain life
Repairs damage to almost all degenerative disease disorders
They clean up the bloodstream
The substrate connects to the enzyme
The substrate connects to the enzymes active site
Where are they found?
Carbohydrase digest carbohydrates into simple sugars
Protease digest proteins into amino acids
Lipase breaks down fat molecules into fatty acids
What would happen without them?
Age quickly, develop physical impairments, develop disease
No living human and animal can live without them
The other part that makes up an enzyme is the substrate.
Enzymes are protein molecules that can be found in animal cells, human cells, or any type of cell.
Active Site
Enzymes have two main areas one of them is called the active site
Lactate is found in our body and in some milk products.
Types of Enzymes
They speed up reactions by lowering the activation energy required to start the reaction

The Small Intestine
The Mouth
The enzyme Amylase is found in the mouth
Breaks down the glucose into smaller sugars
Where is It Found?
Lactate is found in two main areas
The Stomach
Digestive enzymes
Pepsin, gelatinase, gastric amylase, and gastric lipase
What does it do?
Breaks down proteins
An enzyme released in the stomach
Where is it found?
Mostly found in the stomach
In our body
Lactate is found in our body and it helps dissolve lactose sugars in milk products
In milk products.
Lactate is found in some dairy products to dissolve the lactose sugars for people who are lactose intolerant.
What does it do?
It breaks down lactose sugars, people who are lactose intolerant cant produce enough lactate enzymes in their body so therefore the get sick when they try to eat or drink dairy products.
This is the structure of a Lactate enzyme.

Enzymes are special types of catalysts
Catalysts help "speed up" chemical reactions.
What happens if it stops working?
If Lactate enzymes stops working we will all be lactose intolerant
Is there an Industrial use?
There are some dairy products that bring lactate enzymes with them so the lactose sugar is already broken up.

Enzymes in cells are found in the cytoplasm and the mitochondria.
What would happen if it stopped working?
If our bodies no longer had pepsin then we wouldn't be able to break down enzymes which gives us energy to fuel us for the day.
