Transcript of River Valley Civilizations: G.P.I.R.A.T.E.S

G- Hills, plains, rivers, woods, marsh lands, mountains.
P- City-States; Each one was ruled by a king. or in earlier times a priest.
I- Hammurabi- Made the first code of laws. Created term, "An Eye for an Eye."
R- Was Polytheistic; meaning that they believed in many gods. They build ziggurats (temples) to honor and pray to their gods.
A- One "art" was the Royal Tombs of Ur.
T- Writing, and Astronomy.
E- Traded with other civilizations for the things they didn't have.
S- (in order from highest) Priests, Upper Class, Lower Class, and the Slaves :(
4 River Valley
Gpirates= Geography, Political, Intellectual, Religion, Art, Technology, Economy, and Social.

For some "I," It is an important individual instead of intellect.
G- Thought that Egypt was divided into different types of land. The Black Land and the Red Land. The Black Land was the fertile land near the Nile- Good for farming. The Red Land was the barren desert.
P- The pharaoh was highest in rule. They didn't have laws, they did whatever the queen wanted them to.
I- They had education for the slightly higher classes. But slaves didn't get education. Their writing was in Hieroglyphs.
R- They were polytheistic which means they believed in MANY gods.
A- Were trained and skilled craftsmen and labourers. They created pottery, and papyrus scrolls.The papyrus is what they used to read and write on.
T- One piece of technology, taken from the Hittites, was the Chariot.
E- Selling or trading things. There were farmers, weavers, bakers, etc.
S- Highest was the pharaoh, the chief adviser, the priests and nobles, the scribes and soldiers, the scribes and warriors, and then last the slaves and farmers.

The Harappan Civilization
(A.K.A: Indus River Valley Civilization)
Note: No one knows anything for absolute certain. Writing is still indecipherable.
G- Rich lands, surrounded by highlands, desert, and ocean.
P- Said to have not one ruler, but many rulers. OR They had no rulers, they enjoyed equal status.
I- (nothing on internet says anything about education...)
R- Said to have a Mother Goddess and the Great Male God.
A- Painting, making vases, little terracotta toys, some stone sculptures...
T- Complex sewage systems-- Way ahead of their time.
E- Planted crops, wheat, maybe barely... Goats, pigs, cows/bulls, maybe horses.
S- Highest = Priests and soldiers
Middle = Farmers and tradesmen
Lower = Servants and labourers.
G- South is tropical, North is desert where is can get down to -50°C
P- Had dynasties, a family in line for the throne until someone overthrows them and starts a new dynasty.
I-Education in China traced back to the Xia Dynasty
R- Taoism, Confucianism, and Buddhism were three religions during this time.
A- Painting, porcelain, calligraphy, poetry...
T-Made clocks, first used iron, made the compass....
E- Traded salt, iron, fish, cattle, and silk.
S- Nothing. Can't find anything, when I know there is something... :(
