Born: December 18, 1879
Died: March 5, 1953
Joseph was a one of the most powerful and murderous dictators. He fought in WWII against the Germans and started the cold war.
He was born in Gori, Georgia on December 8, 1878. His birth name was Losif Jughashvili. His Family was poor and he had a rough childhood. When he was 7 he got smallpox. He survived but he had many scars. He later went to a seminary. Then got expelled for being radical.
More of his career
Stalin was a very mean leader and put people that he didn't like in slavery labor camps or killed them. He probably killed 40 million people. At the beginning of WWII Stalin was friends with Hitler. Hitler didn't like him so he planned a surprise attack against the Soviet Union, so Stalin went to the Allies and defeated Germany. After WWII Stalin ran the Eastern European countries and started the cold war between the Soviet Union and the United States.
Why he was famous
He was born in Gori, Georgia
and died in Kuntsevo Dacha near Moscow, Russia.
After the seminary he joined the Russian Revolution to get rid of the Tsars government to have communist government. He led riots and strikes and got money from robbing banks and committing crimes. After the revolution he became one of the top leaders in the government. When Lenin died Stalin took over the Soviet Union, even though Lenin thought that he was very cruel. Stalin built factories throughout the Soviet Union. He built them so that they would help defeat Germany.
•He got the name Stalin while he was a revolutionary. It comes from the Russian world for "steel" combined with "Lenin".
•Before Lenin died he wrote a Testament where he recommended that Stalin be removed from power. Lenin referred to Stalin as a "course, brutish bully".
