Transcript of Thanksgiving
Many families have special "Thanksgiving Traditions" but the first tradition starting with the turkey, started because turkeys were affordable, and could feed a large crowd.
What I cooked
-Smoked Turkey (Brine)
-Green Bean Casserole
-Mashed Potatoes & Gravy
-Sweet Potato Souffle
Why did I choose this as my project?
I decided to choose this as my project, so that I could host a holiday dinner to bring my family together and eat a delicious meal. And also I thought it would be good learning experience on how to cook a turkey. This was my first time ever cooking a whole meal, and a turkey, all by myself.
My Recipe Book
I also made a scrapbook/recipe book to show pictures of me doing my project, and to show all the recipes that I used in my dinner
My Senior Project
My senior project was to decorate my house to make it look festive for Thanksgiving, and I cooked the whole Thanksgiving dinner for my family.
A little bit about Thanksgiving..
Thanksgiving is always held on the fourth Thursday of November. This holiday used to be to give thanks for the food that was being eaten, but it has turned into more of a holiday to watch the big football game.
Approximate Cost of the Book
-Printing the Pictures ($11.00)
-Clip Art (Free from Google)
The recipe book took a lot of time, about 30 hours.
Black Friday has also started to be one of the most popular Thanksgiving Traditions.

History of Thanksgiving
Thanksgiving was started in 1621, the celebration was planned because of the huge harvest that year. Native Americans and Pilgrims wanted to share their great crops with their community members. About 50 Pilgrims and 90 Natives were there. It lasted around 3 days. Also, there were no women present, only men. And it was held outside. They hunted most of their food, but also used a lot of their own grown crops at the dinner.

President Abe Lincoln declared Thanksgiving a national holiday in 1863, during the Civil War.
There are 4 places named "Turkey, in the US.
Canadians also celebrate Thanksgiving, on the 2nd Monday in October.
Only male turkeys "gobble"
Pilgrims didn't use forks, only spoons, knives and their fingers.
The Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade started in the 1920's.
The largest turkey weighed 86 pounds, the size of a large dog.
Turkey's have 3,500 feathers, when they are fully matured.
Black Friday is the official start of Christmas shopping
Also, their houses were so small that the dinner had to be held outside. After the celebration, there was a church service held with Governor William Bradford. Turkeys cost $25.00 or more now, and that used to be more than enough for a whole meal.
Pilgrims used to have a lot of work to do and it was difficult for them to hunt. They hunted using muskets.
Muskets are a type of gun
Waiting for everyone to get there...
Next year, I am planning on starting college at YVC to earn my AA, and figure it out from there.
