Mrs. Maione's Class The Life Cycle of a Chicken 1. Egg 2. Chick The hard part of a chicken's mouth is called a beak. A baby chick has an egg tooth on its beak. The baby chick uses its egg tooth to crack its shell. 3. Feathers Dry The chick is weak and wet. It snuggles under its mother to keep warm. The chick dries after a few hours. 4. Chicken Finally, the chick grows and becomes a
chicken. The chicken lays eggs. And like all
living creatures, the chicken dies. First, the chicken lays eggs. The baby chick,
called the embryo, is inside the egg, eating the yolk inside the egg. It will take 20, 21, or 22 days until the chick cracks outside the egg. The Parts of an Egg:
