By: Johann Machuca The Hero's Journey Essay- The Lion King Like Simba, there are many other heroes in stories face the perilous journey of becoming a hero. In majority of movies, the hero's journey can show what the hero goes through and how the hero faces their trials and tribulations with some guidance of helpful guardians. The Lion King shows every step of the hero's journey and how it follows what the hero, in this case Simba, must do, so his life could go back to normal. Therefore, even though the hero goes through a lot of dangerous stuff, they manage to get over with it and return to their original life. In movies, heroes face many trials and tribulations in their journeys, but have the ability to face them. Even though heroes face these trials, they also counter with guardians that helps them go through their journey. In the Lion King, Simba, the hero in the movie, has to face his uncle Scar to take back Pride Rock and be the king and also with his friends that follow him throughout his journey. In the Lion King, Simba faces the trials and tribulations after his father died at the gorge and ran away. For example, when he finds out what his uncle Scar is doing at Pride Rock he faces many inner thoughts in him and encounters with the baboon and his father telling him to go back home and face his uncle. He knows that if he goes back, he would confront his uncle and challenge him to fight for the kingdom and if he stays, he would remain in the jungle and be having his "Hakuna Matata" life. This shows that he must pick a decision of either going back or not, but with a little of support from his father, he decides to go back to Pride Rock and confront his uncle. In addition, he arrives at Pride Rock and confronts his uncle for being the "alpha lion. " As a result, he fights his uncle and shows that he has "guts" to fight for his land even though many thought that he died and being a coward about it. This shows that Simba is very brave and at the end reclaims the kingdom, defeats his uncle and his annoying hyenas, and became King of Pride Rock. Simba faced many trials and tribulations, but in the end with his family, friends, and his father, he managed to became king and everything is back to normal. At the same time as Simba faced his trials, he had help with some friends of his that stood by him. For example, two of his closest friends that took care of him when he was little was Timon and Pumba who guided him and teach him their motto, "Hakuna Matata." He knew that these two, even though they sometimes mess up a bunch, were friends that he would trust. This shows that Simba cares about these two guys as for the same for them to Simba and would have their back at the end. In addition, he had also his friend Nala, who both were best friends ever since childhood and always took care of each other. At first, they both were so happy to see each other when Simba ran away and didn't like each other, but at the end they fall in love in each other and got married. This shows that they trust each other, but when Nala told Simba what was happening back at home, he didn't wanted to believe what she was saying and ran away again from the jungle. After his father's visit, Simba raced into action to Pride Rock and meets Nala, Timon, and Pumba to prepare for the final battle. Simba knew that without the help of his friends, he wouldn't be able to succeed to restore the kingdom back to normal. Thanks to his friends, they fought through one of Simba's toughest trial.
