Transcript of Reading

Students who are not reading at grade level by third grade are at a higher risk of:
addiction
poverty
teenage pregnancy
prison 75% or students with literacy problems in third grade will continue to have literacy problems throughout their lives. In America more than 3,000 students drop out of high school each day- mostly because of a lack of reading skills. At Risk students
are often
children
who have had little experience
with
books before they started school. I read because
one life
isn't enough,
and
in the pages of a book
I can be anybody.
-Richard Peck I read because one of these days
I'm going to get out of this town,
and
I'm going to go everywhere
and
meet everybody--
and
I want to be ready.
-Richard Peck I owe everything I am
and
everything I will ever be
to books.
