If you are
But living in this diverse mecca of cool comes at a high cost...
And for Generation Rent...
In this brand new REAL TIME reality format we're offering a solution...
There's only one place to be...
...London is now the most expensive city in the world to live & work in.
...the rent is often spent.
In 1992 MTV created The Real World and tapped into a generational mood.
Like in a real house share, the housemates get to choose who they want to live with...
It's hard to fulfill your dreams when you're worrying about paying the bills.
...the chance to live in an incredible East London warehouse...
The process is repeated by the existing housemates until the house is full.
There will be no master interviews.
More The Island than Big Brother, this series has NO PRIZE and a HIDDEN FORMAT.
The housemates must follow the off-camera
For example, each night someone takes charge of cooking the evening meal, bringing them all together.
The house is a constructed space, but the action will play out organically.
...we'll meet a gang of strangers from a diverse range of backgrounds, as they meet for the first time and live together in London.
Unlike Geordie Shore or Big Brother these characters are living their REAL LIVES.
We want to cast a diverse mix of interesting characters who have a story to tell.
The series will be filmed in real time, using a mix of rig and crew.
LOOKING TO PARTY,
OR TRYING TO FIND YOURSELF...
WHAT'S THE CATCH?
They have dinner,
...and slowly reveal their story and why they want to be in the house rent free.
The series kicks off with just two people in the house.
The original housemate will decide which one gets to move in.
The three newcomers hang out at the house for the night:
This fun entertaining series will do the same and reflect what it's like to make it on your own two feet in the capital in 2016.
The warehouse is rigged with cameras, watching the housemates 24/7...
IN THIS SERIES...
...and has plenty of shared space to party, chat and hang-out.
We want the series to be set in an aspirational converted warehouse in East London...
The housemates are free to come and go, bring home friends, dates, or fuck buddies.
This means the action will feel fresh and up-to-date, giving the possibility of 2 polished episodes a week.
Instead, Rent Free is filmed as a
real life soap.
...we also follow them outside the warehouse as they make connections, date and party in the city.
And with no rent to pay they'll have the chance to make their dreams come true...
We'll watch them make mistakes, fall in and out of love, and make new friends and enemies.
...whether they are making the first steps in transitioning gender, ending a long term relationship or starting an exciting new career.
These act as light format beats for the series.
Studio Lambert knows how to cast real, likeable characters with great stories...
They will be fresh, aspirational, young, attractive, fun and real.
It will be a meeting of people from different social backgrounds with different opinions and outlooks on life.
The cast will range from 18 - 30 years old.
...will feel like 'grown up' reality TV (First Dates and The Island) packed with real emotion and drama, and characters the audience will fall in love with.
Do they move in the person they fancy?
Giving the housemates the power to decide who they live with allows them to make their own mistakes.
Is one person more deserving than the other?
If they hate all three, who do they choose?
We'll carefully select which three housemates to introduce to ensure the maximum drama.
This could be three attractive girls/guys, three party animals, or even three previous rejects.
The real time format will allow the show to capture the pulse of the nation...
...whether our housemates are celebrating a big sporting event, going to a Pride festival or discussing the hot topics of the day - we won't shy away.
...that will feel ICONIC.
Our organic format means we can play with the introductions.
We could cast three couples, introduce more than three individuals, allow the housemates to keep two, or reject all three.
We'll make use of self-shot material from the housemates - their party photos and videos, and uploads to social media in and out of the house.
Or we could have two young TV producers embedded in the house.
This way we minimise interference with external production.
On day one, they meet three potential housemates.
There's a generation
at a crossroads with
49% of under 30s would try a non-monogamous relationship
relationships are on the rise in Britain
Technology has revolutionised how we meet potential partners
but it’s also changed our attitudes to dating multiple people at the same time
Millennials have been raised with the concept of sexual freedom
and they've seen their parents fail with monogamy as divorce rates peaked in the 1980s
It’s no surprise they are
models to love and intimacy such as polyamory
Now we want to examine this cultural shift in a brand new documentary format
This year we're ripping up the rule book of what society considers a ‘normal’ relationship
Their new home will have ten separate bedrooms
This means if the majority of the house feel like a couple has formed and become exclusive...
...they can ask that couple to leave
We begin with a core group of
The action will play out organically with each room rigged so we can observe every aspect of their relationships
Some of the drama will come from the domestic world
How is the household budget spent?
Who does the cooking, cleaning and food shopping?
But it is the
that provides the real story
How do they manage jealousy?
What happens if two of the group want some alone time?
Who sleeps where?
How will they explain their new relationship to their friends and family?
Polyamory has become more mainstream and visible
and its intertwined with the current feminism movement
and providing a space for a group of young singletons to explore a polyamorous lifestyle
This show is the opposite to Love Island as there is only one rule:
NO COUPLING UP
Each will have their own reason for rejecting monogamy and trying something different
Most of our cast will have a track record of polyamory
Hunted and The Island were authentic
at their heart
Now we want do the same for dating and relationships...
A crew will also follow them out of the house as they go about their real lives
This isn’t a whittle or about finding ‘The One’
...questioning one of the oldest frameworks of our society
We're talking about people who are open about having multiple partners at the same time
42% of Tinder users are openly dating more than one person
50% of OKCupid users would date somebody in a polyamorous relationship
They are moving into a rigged loft apartment in Manchester for six weeks to road test a polyamorous relationship
This will free up bedrooms and allow the
group to look for new members
When the six weeks are over, only one question remains:
Do the group want to stay together?
Have they created a harmonious, loving polyamorous relationship?
Tired of serial cheaters - polyamory offers more trust & honesty
Recently come out as bisexual & wants to explore a multi-partner relationship
Believes it makes sense financially & emotionally
Thinks that monogamy is dead and this is the future
During the selection process we will find the right mix of people who share an attraction
The group will expand across the series as it would do naturally
The majority of our cast will be from the North-West, so they'll be juggling their work, their friends, their family...
AND their new relationship
New open minded people will join the group and shake up the dynamic
New members will be first introduced to the group at a dinner or party
Then the group must have a grown up discussion...
Should we have one?
RUN THE EXPERIMENT
They believe in it and want the experiment to work
We can use the psychologist as a tool to help the group navigate a polyamorous relationship and offer support
HELP & GUIDE THE GROUP IF NEEDED
FLASHPOINTS & MILESTONES
Romantic Weekend Away
Meet the Parents
Setting Ground Rules
Attitudes to Sex
THEIR JOB WOULD BE TO...
Finding New Members
...do more than one of them want the newbie to move in?
