Transcript of Walter Disney, Birth to Death

Walter Disney, Cartoon Creator
Birth & Family...
'Walt' Disney was born on December 5, 1901, in Hermosa, Illinois, being one of five children, his three brothers & one sister. His parents were Elias & Flora Disney. His mother, Flora was German-American & his father, Elias was Irish-Canadian. Soon after his Birth, his parents decided to move to Marceline, Missouri where he would spend most of his childhood...
In Missouri...
When Walt moved to Missouri, he developed an interest of drawing & painting. He sold his artwork to his neighbors & friends for a small price for his great drawings. This is where & when he began his cartoon drawing that would soon become his occupation.
Mickey Mouse, one of Walt Disney's most famous cartoon characters, began as a rabbit. Mickey Mouse began as Oswald the Lucky Rabbit. Soon after Walt created Oswald, the company that he worked for said that they were going to cut his salary almost in half, but Walt wouldn't stand for it, so he quit. The company he had previously worked for owned Oswald, so he had to come up with a new popular cartoon, and fast. One night, Walt had an idea. They shortened the ears Oswald, added some extra padding around the middle, and turned the rabbit into a mouse. But this was not the Mickey mouse that we all came to know quite yet. His name began as Mortimer. No one really knows how he became Mickey, but one popular theory is that his wife made him change the name.

The Story Behind Mickey Mouse
Minnie Mouse...
Minnie mouse was created in 1928 by Walt Disney to accompany Mickey on his cartoon adventures. Her name actually isn't Minnie mouse! Her whole name is Minerva mouse, but Walt's wife didn't like the name just like she didn't like Mickeys first name, so Walt gave her a nickname, Minnie.

Walt's First Job...
Walt's father actually didn't want Walt to become a cartoon artist because he didn't think that it was a reliable occupation, but his mother and older brother encouraged him to at least try. But he still didn't try to become a cartoon artist for a while. First, he enlisted for the military but was rejected because he was underage (only 16 years old). After that, he started a company called Laugh-o-grams which fell bankrupt. When Laugh-o-grams went bankrupt, all he had was a suitcase & twenty dollars, and he started fresh...
After Laugh-o-grams...
After Walt's Laugh-o-grams fiasco, he went to Hollywood and started producing more cartoons that got him recognized such as...
Walt's Private Life...
Walt actually wasn't a very emotional person. He was very quiet most of the time, but whenever he got upset, he really blew his top. He showed his love by being interested and involved in his family. His daughter once said in an interview, "Daddy never missed a father's function no matter how I discounted it. I'd say,"Oh, Daddy, you don't need to come. It's just some stupid thing." But he'd always be there, on time.". He was a great dad, because he was always there as much a possible for his family. In 1938, after the great success of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, which brought in $1,499,000, his mother died of asphyxiation because in her new home close to Walt's studio, there was a faulty furnace. Walt shut off from his family for a while because he blamed himself for his mothers death.
Disney World
In 1955, Walt's dream of a clean, well organized amusement park opened, the 17 billion dollar Disney World Magic Kingdom was opened. Which is still open to this day, bringing an average of 2.1 million dollars a day.
