Wireless energy transfer or wireless power transmission is the transmittance of electrical energy from a power source to an electrical load without interconnecting wires.
Tesla demonstrated it by powering fluorescent lamps without using wires.
The Wardenclyffe tower was designed by Tesla for wireless transmission of electrical power rather than telegraphy.
William C. Brown Brown invented the rectenna which directly converts microwaves to DC current.
Brown demonstrated its ability by powering a helicopter through microwaves.
Brown (Raytheon) and James F. Trimer (NASA) announced the development of a thin-film plastic rectenna using printed-circuit technology that weighed only one-tenth as much as any previous rectenna .
A physics research group at the Massachusetts Institute of technology (MIT) Demonstrated wireless powering.
