What should we do?
ISIS (Daesh) has strong digital media & content creation skills, use social media to gain sympathizers, raise funds, recruit disaffected youth.
ISIS is Winning the Social Media War
Tourism is economically vital and a soft target.
Targets may be visitors, not local, so “we’re not quarrelling with anyone” is no defense.
Jamaica: >3 million arrivals, 13% of Jamaica’s GDP; 30-40% of all employment directly and indirectly related to tourism

The same standards do not apply across all media
Traditional media are regulated for accuracy, fairness, objectivity; expected to fact-check information before publishing/broadcasting.
But most of what goes out on social media is not held to the same standards.
More people now get their news from the internet than from TV, radio, newspapers

Most recent terrorist attacks in the West involved ‘home-grown’ jihadists.

has supplied ISIS with more foreign fighters per capita than any other country in the West. “Trinidadians do very well with ISIL…They are high up in the ranks, they are very respected and they are English-speaking. ISIL have used them for propaganda to spread their message through the Caribbean.” (Frances Robles, NYTimes)
