Double click anywhere & add an idea Neptune Neptune is the eighth planet from the sun Neptune is the Roman name for the Greek god Poseidon. They gave Neptune it's name b/c of it's blue color. Poseidon is the god of the sea. Neptune was discoverd on September 23, 1846 by Johann Gottfried Galle Neptune is a gaseous planet
meaning that it has
no solid surface. Unlike Earth, Neptune is mostly hydrogen, helium, and methane gases Neptune was the first planet located through mathematical predictions rather than through regular observations of the sky Neptune's volume is 72 times that of Earth. The mass is 17 times Earth's mass. Works sited:
